We just found out that my three year old son has aspergers. I'm still trying to let it sink in yet it is so hard. I mean there is somewhat a since of relief but at the same time i'm sitting here thinking is this real. It all seems like a dream. I love my son with all my heart and soul and not a thing will ever change that. But how does mom deal with the breakdowns that he has and all the misunderstandingt that i see in my litle angels eyes? I hope someone else out there can understand because the ones close to us is in even bigger dienal.

it will hopefully get easier now that you have a dx handle on the confusion. there are still a lot of discovery to go through, like does he have cognitive impairments as well as emotional ones; will he have difficulty adjusting to school; will he need medication in order to manage his behaviour. I'm so sorry that you are having to face this alone right now. Eventually most of your family will learn how to deal with AS, but for the time being, I will try to help here on DS.

You did a great job helping your boy get to be 3, loving him like you do, AND coming on here. I have been dealing with a lot of family and friend denial, and guilt, and grief. I recommend supportive friends, a specialized therapist, and this website. Hang in there. Remember that you need to get help for yourself first and foremost, mom gets the oxygen first, then him.
