Hello, my name is Marcus, and I have aspergers. I'm new here, and I need support because I sometimes feel lost, and don't know how to accept the fact that I a. who I am. I understand all that, but sometimes I forget. I hope I can soon let go of that frustration because I know that I can only change the future, not what is already a part of me. anyone can help me. I am itching to know how this affects others, too.
Ya, our world, that of "on line" friends.
I am in my upper 40's, and never had a real friend.
been in a couple short lived relationships, but those burned out as soon as the honeymoon period (heated passions) was over, got into those because of women needing some man to use, I knew this, but what the hell, a little romance in ones life is better then none. and I got lucky, I had a son.
but it takes a lot of getting used too, being alone.
I been making a lot of acquaintances, been forcing my self out into the world, to learn and grow, but over time I have seen that no matter how hard I try, I will never be normal, nor have a normal life, or much of any real friends that will come knocking at my door to visit and spend a little time with me.
I been forcing my self to accept this, because for the longest I did not like my self because of my not having, or being able to have, others in my life, but I do like my self and who I am, and lately, with realising I will most likely die alone, I been focusing on that, on enjoying life for life's sake, of loving my self for who I am regardless of others. stopping trying to do things to please others in hopes they will become my friends, and just focus on my own life and needs, and that of making my self happy for a change. hell, I don't even remember what sex is like anymore, or that of what it feels like to be wanted or touched.
I have had lifelong problems with relating, on all levels, but particulary with opposite sex. I feel lonely sometimes - other times i'm pretty happy just to be by myself. Being touched can be too much stimulation, sometimes. Then there's also the problem with not understanding how to communicate in the way that NTs do: i don't understand innuendo. At this point in my life, with so many failed relationships behind me, i'm not really sure if i want another one anyway. I do have friends, mostly other people who have at least some spectrum characteristics, and it's nice that we can get together when we feel like it, or not, and that's ok. But then, i'm a lot older than you are, so i think that since there's less pressure from hormones now, i don't feel so driven to find someone. I think it's a strange thing how we are so controlled by biology, even though we are not necessarily controlled by a lot of the social forces that so many NTs seem to be totally enslaved by. Yes, i feel lonely sometimes. I wonder what it would feel like to be NT. I wonder if i would think as much as i do about some of the things i think about. I wonder if i would feel the things i do feel. My therapist has said he feels that to be Aspie is a unique gift, with which there are tradeoffs, however. It has been a lifelong obsession for me to try to understand precisely what makes me different from other people, even before i knew that i had Asperger Syndrome. Even before i knew that's what i was really wondering (if that makes sense).
