The haiku poetry form originated in Japan.
-There are only 3 lines and 17 syllables.
-Line one containing 5 syllables.
-Line two has 7 syllables.
-And line three has 5 syllables again.
-It isn’t necessary for the Haiku to rhyme.
-The goal is to paint a picture in the mind of the reader.

Fun Fact: Ukiah is haiku spelled backwards, and is the name of a city in California, U.S.A., that holds an annual Haiku Festival.

Will never be said of me
I will dig ditches

Monster under bed –
Oh, please don’t eat me tonight;
You’ll get tummy-ache

Monster ate city
Sea monster ate a city
City by the sea
