A Child Abuse Survivors Group Community Group
We survived child abuse, but the pain still remains and so do the other effects which can last a lifetime. We are often unable to find adequate help, and we are seeking answers that can help us understand what happened so that we can go on to lead normal lives. I was always wrong. Even straigh A report cards were "trying to bankrupt the family" and I was sent to bed without food.
I stayed away from my highly dysfunctional family of origin for a good 30 years and worked very hard on becoming a healthy woman. I started my own business - got sober and lived a good life. After my husband died they spotted an opportunity to swoop back and cause a lot of pain again.
I thoiught I would never have to endure the kind of treatment I endured as a kid - I forgot that Leopards do not change their spots. My family is insisting on treating me like the family scapegoat again. The only way I know how to handle this is to walk away. I'm feeling pretty alone right now - probably because Im pretty alone right now. Damn - I wish I had not let them back into my life - their treatment has really taken a toll on me.
Dysfunction never feels good - and it is crazy making. My husband was such a healthy man and he was simple to live with - everything made sense. Nothing that goes on in my family of origin, makes any sense - so the sooner I disengage - the better off I will be.
I endured a lot of abuse during my childhood in a setting that was very religious and ritualistic.
Sometimes I think people use religion as an excuse to behave aggressively and interfere in the lives of others. They really seem to get an emotional kick out of it.
