Like eating sugar. I might say to my grandson he can only have two cookies instead of the whole box like he wants. My not giving him his way might hurt his feelings, but didn't bring him harm. On the other hand, I might not want his feelings to be hurt, so I let him eat the whole box. By doing so, I have brought harm to the nutritional support his mother was counting on me to do. So in the latter sense, I have brought possible harm to my grandson's teeth and body AND to the relationship with my daughter--all because I didn't know the difference between "hurt" and "harm."
