Zoning Out
This morning I was so zoned out whilst driving that I almost hit the back of another car. I started doing this in the end stages of my failing marriage. I couldn't deal with the fact that I had failed again and I was doing everything I could to cope with it. I read that children learn this coping method growing up in stressful environements. I did as I was back and forth between parents and grandparents on a daily basis.
This morning my boyfriend told me he felt insecure in his job. He never talks this way although I have wandered if he's more insecure than he lets on. If he felt this way all along, why would he commit to this new house and responsibiltes? I find myself zoning out alot at work. Everyone here has been great to me but when I feel I've made a mistake or messed up, I find myself just numbing out to deal. It makes me extremly tired.

Don't know if we are discussing the same phenom, but my shrinks call my personal version of zoning out, "dissociation." Popular theory has it that dissociation is the very mechanism of my Trauma Induced Amnesia and several other of the meaner symptoms in my psychobaggage car. One of my more effective therapists coached me in treating my dissociation episodes like a case of the flu. Lots of rest, fluids and soft foods. Easy does it. Don't rush the recovery. Inside my own skin, it is, indeed, more exhausting meanest of physical labor. Even childbirth.
Whether that applies to your case, or not. . .
