Yaye solid foods finally
On New Years Day, 1 week shy of 6 months, I decided it was time to give solids a try. I felt like Ava was ready. Plus we had a bunch of family over for NY day so why not do it when we had an audience? Plus it's easier to remember milestones on holidays right? I made the rice cereal myself. I ground 1 cup of brown rice in the blender and cooked it. I then added a little breastmilk to sweeten it up and we were ready. Her first mouthful was so cute. She had no idea what was going in her mouth or even what to do with it. She did, however, open her mouth everytime the spoon came near. But the faces she made were hilarious! We even videotaped it. She spit out most of it and even gagged once but I think she ate some. I've been giving her a little cereal every night now since then and each day gets better. Last night was day 5 and she did fabulous! She ate so much! She chewed like a champ and her bib was much cleaner than the last couple days. And then, she completely slept through the night and by 7 am this morning, I had to wake her up! She sleeps through the night now, for the most part, but usually starts stirring anywhere from 4:30 to 6:00 am. Wow if solid feedings are going to keep her asleep that much longer, I'm REALLY excited!
My goal is introduce each food separately for a few days, then switch to another so I can know if she has any food allergies. If so, I'll know what kind. I think I'll start with veggies first to be sure she doesn't get used to the sweet taste of fruits and not take to veggies. But I think tonight I will go to the grocery store and get some carrots, peas, squash and sweet potatoes. I think those are sweet enough. Not sure which I will give her first. Can't wait! I'm thinking in a few weeks she'll be ready to try fruits and after that, I'll start mixing stuff like rice cereal and apples and banans and peas and carrots and such. I am going to "attempt" to make my own food and freeze it once she starts needing it at daycare but I'm not making any promises to myself. I know it would save us money and I would feel better knowing the food is totally fresh, but it might be tough working full time. I will just have to try and see how it goes. I do cloth diapering but we do keep a stash of disposables around just in case. I might do the same for food.
I have to admit, for the past few weeks, I've been really nervous about starting solids with her. I just didn't know what to start first and how to do it. I think everything is falling into place.
Now I get to look forward to those wonderful poopy diapers!!!

so glad it went so well!
I\'m planning on trying to make our own baby food as well. So, keep me updated on how it goes.
