Ya never know

So... yesterday I actually got out of bed (!), shaved my head and showered, packed up my gym bag and gift cards and headed out of the house. This is significant because when I have time off it always throws me, takes me a while to get into a routine... and if I don't do the usual getting up and leaving the house stuff I tend to stay in my sweats, nap all day on the couch and stay up until the wee hours of the morning. Given the schedule I have this year I don't think the napping is a bad thing, but it will eat up my entire vacation if I let it. Feeling virtuous I arrived at Gold's, planned to do a full body circuit, especially since it had been nearly a week since my last workout.  I also wanted to make it a cardio workout, so I was doing light weights and high reps. Partway through my first circuit a friend of mine joined me - he had already done a spin class earlier.  It was fun, a little bit of banter and chit-chat between exercises, but we kept it moving at a fairly good pace. Until midway through the second circuit and we did some walking lunges. This should NOT have been a problem... but it took me a while to recover.  "Steve," I said, "get me to the men's room.  I think I'm going to puke." When we got to the bathroom I sank to the floor (eww) and put my head on my arm.  I was seeing stars.  Tried sitting up to sip some gatorade, that didn't work... and when the lightheadedness didn't go away Steve went to the desk and had them call 911. By the time they arrived (and may I just say, the policeman who came with them was gorgeous) I was feeling a little more normal (color back in my face, but still sweating like a pig and cold, cold, cold), not ready to walk yet. They took me to the ER - they thought I was probably dehydrated, so I was put on an IV drip and covered me with warm blankets.  Because of my advanced age (again I say "!") they thought it prudent to rule out heart problems. Except the cardiologist works a different hospital on Saturdays, so they kept me over night. Lovely. Today they gave me a stress test (on a treadmill) and an echo cardiogram.  Everything looks normal, so my nearly passing out yesterday was more about pushing my body harder than it was ready to go (how embarrassing) and not because there's anything amiss with my heart. Whew. NOT the way I planned to spend my weekend!  Home now, getting ready to do some studying.  ++++++ Oh, and did I mention the angry red patches on my chest where electrodes were placed and re-placed?  The woman who did the stress test DRY SHAVED patches where more stickums were going to go... ow, ow, ow, but they came off better than the several other pieces of tape that were ripping the hairs out.   I do have to say that bad as it was it didn't hold a candle to last year's full body wax.

I do the same thing when I have long breaks, a break in my routine will magnatize my body to the couch and keep me up until the wee hours. I have to be careful not to let it all slide (gained 30 lbs that way last time)but I love to have deliciously decadent rests after long bouts of hard work. \"Work hard, rest hard, but always be careful not to overdo!\"

Wow, just don\'t do that again. Some nurses really don\'t seem to care how they are treating the patients. Glad to hear it wasn\'t a big deal.
