Writing
Once Upon A Time... I was a child My small feet wandered about on gravelThey made their way through mud puddlesand new grass, and hot tar on dead end roads My hands followed, picking flowers, touching moss, carrying broken sticks, catching tadpoles My ears caught the whisper of movementthe trill of chickadeesfrogs croaking My eyes absorbed everything, the trees towering above meThe storm covered skies, the tiniest bug crawling on a blade of grass My entire being soaked in the hot summer sunin mid afternoonrocking in the old wicker chairon the front porch, after my chores were done As a young child,I carried the wounds of a lifetimeLocked away deep within me Look into my eyes and you would seeWisdom and wariness,Curiosity and caution,Intellegence and insecurity To please those in authority was crucialAnd to do the right thing imperative And so I grew up (D.B. 2004) I wrote this after having a nervous breakdown and being diagnosed with Hepatitis C.I am in a better place now, but life is and always will be a journeyof change, hope, struggles.
