Would My Husband Know Me

The other day I realized how much I've changed since losing my husband.  Before I was somewhat like a shrinking violet, always wanting to be nice, never confronting rude people.  But now, I just come right out and tell them what I think.  To h.. with decorum.
Case in point.  I was standing in a store with a coworker.  She is a lot younger than me.  Anyhow, she's known as a rude person, a person who enjoys making fun of people.  In the old days , I would have ignored her comments.  But not now.
So a rather large, morbidly obese woman walks by.  She was around 40, short, and eating a bag of popcorn.  My coworker turns to me and says, 'isn't she horrible.  She's so fat and is still eating like a pig.  disgusting!
And I turned to her and said:  You think that woman wants to be fat?  You think she gets up everyday and says, I think I want heart disease, and high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.  You think she gets up saying, I want that woman who's staring at me to make fun of me.  I want to become a diabetic, and oh, I enjoy so much that men no longer look at me with lust in their eyes.
By this time, my coworker is wide eyed and apologizing to me of all people, but I kept going:
You're chubby yourself, I said.  And so and I.  Do you want to look like that?  Do you orchestrate your life to be chubby?  No.  You're chubby because it's darn hard to lose weight, and think, you're only 24.  That poor woman is over 40.  If she ate like you, she'd still be fat.  And if you ate like her, you'll be even bigger than that poor woman.

Needless to say, my coworker was speechless.  And I thought, My God.  I've turned into Julia Sugarbaker, that amusing character from that old television series Designing Women.  Now that I think about it, I think she was a widow too.
Oh, well.
