Worseday
Dearest,
The first time that I went to the beach as a little boy, I had never seen an ocean before, I spent the day building sandcastles. Late in the day the ocean came back and washed all my sandcastles away. I was very upset. On our way home I told my father that I was never going to build sandcastles again. My dad just laughed and said something to the effect that “Yes you will, because when a kid goes to the beach that’s what a kid does, but you won’t be so surprised when the ocean takes back the beach because that’s what the ocean does.”
Someone asked the question, “Is there really an after life”? I’ve been thinking about that. I’m thinking does it matter? For you the struggle is over, whether you’ve gone to another world, another plane of existence, or nowhere at all, your pain is gone. The struggles are done for you. The litany of daily disappointments and frustrations are no more. Your pain is ended, your troubles are no more.
We, the living, we must go on. Each new day dawns with the hope that today something will go right, something will work itself through. Today perhaps we’ll be happy, if only for a little while. We are left to struggle along as best we can without our love and soul mates. We are better for having known you. We are happier for having laughed in the sunshine with you. We are wiser for having loved you in the darkness. Your love and kindnesses are with us still. We are better people for having loved you. Life is a challenge, people are difficult, but it does proceed as it will. We continue to build our sand castles on the beach because that’s what life does. The ocean of time washes them away because that’s what the ocean does. What will be, will be.
Till the snow stops falling, and the wind stops blowing, Your Ken

Ken, Thank you for sharing this. I wish you peace.
Ken, I am having a rough patch...thanks for sharing your journal with us. I needed that right now. I hope we all can move forward with some joy in our lives again. Hugs Lu Ann
Ken,
Understand about the sandcastles. Every day since I loss my husband it feels like a storm never ends and washes my sandcastle away too. Better for loving him but hard living in this pain without him. Don\'t have answers about the afterlife. This grief shakes ones very faith. But I hope my husband is out there some place going on with his life still. I hope there is more than what we can see.
peace to you.

I think your last paragraph says it for all of us. Thanks for putting it into such eloquent words. Diane

Abbey was a lucky woman.

Hello Ken...so beautiful, you write what I can\'t/don\'t know how to say what I\'m thinking....take care....keeping you in my thoughts and prayers...hugs, Sandi
I loved that journal entry thanks for sharing it :)

Yup. You got that right. As hard as it is to keep building the sandcastles, we build on.

You write so well, express yourself so beautifully. I\'m going through a rough patch too (somebody else mentioned that) and am very low on hope and happiness right now. I do not want to build any sandcastles this morning.
This, however lifted my spirits. Maybe I\'ll just think about going out to check out the sand. Then put my toe in the water. Then maybe...
As for an afterlife, I very much think so and it matters a great deal to me. I need those \"signs\" that David is still part of my life, still guiding me with his loving and gentle hand, still listening to me talk, hearing my pain, and sending the reassurance of his sweet presence. He still shakes our bed, ever so gently in the night. I can hear his voice advising me to pay bills on time (yeah really), or when I\'m down to \"stop feeling sad, I am still here with you. Go and enjoy our grandchildren.\" And on and on and on. This is just my opinion of course, my experience. Everybody has their own.
Hugs
Really enjoyed your entry Ken as usual!
Ken, beautiful story and video. I wish you peace. The ups and downs in our journey really sucks.
