Working it out.

Things have been getting better since my initial break-down due to my job and all the pressures it has put on me lately. For those who have not been keeping up to date with the events that have been happening to me, the best way to put it is that I finally started my job at the German Amazon and compared to the one I used to work for, MUC3 has been nothing but heartaches, tears, and anger since I have been working there (which is almost a month now).
At first the main disappointment came with their scheduling. Basically you get to request one day off a week (any day but Saturday), then you get that requested day off every other month, whereas the other months, they schedule you a day off. Si naturally, for April I requested having Fridays off. But since it is May, they have given me Thursdays off, and I will not have Fridays off again until some time in June. While originally (before starting work) I was told that I could get a custom schedule to fit my needs (because of bad train schedules as well as the fact that I can only see Taz on the weekends), every attempt I have made at finding some solution to my schedule problems have been shot down by this Amazon because I am not special---which I agree that I'm not special, but some of these things are just ridiculous.
I live in a small town where not many trains pass by. I have a hard time getting to work and an even harder time getting home from work. But then, when I work the late shift, I cannot even take a train home, I have to wait on a bus to take me home and even then, I'm not even getting in the door until 2am (I get off of work at 23:25 the night prior). So, when I asked to be put on days-only, I was shot down because all employees must work both early and late shifts. When I applied to be a part-time worker so that I could work 8:00-14:00 every day, I was shot down AGAIN because that position cannot be applied for until you have been working for 6 months AND you can only get that shift if you are a Mother with small children (WTF?!).
While I must applaud them on giving me day-shift for 4 weeks, what I want to scream at them is,"Are you dumb?!" They gave me the 4 weeks on day shift in the hopes that I would find a flat in an area closer to my work so that it would be easier for me to get back and forth. What they failed to listen to and realize was that, in order to leave my current flat, my roommate requires 2-months notice AND I haven't even been paid yet, so how am I supposed to find a flat in 4 weeks?!
Lastly...I was so sick of Amazon after that first week that I resorted in looking for a place closer to Taz so that I might get a job on base and just live close enough to where she could live with me and we could split bills until we decided to get married or something. Well, the jobs on base would barely be making me $400 a month. That does not even begin to pay rent for the flats in her area and and would not cover any other bills including phone as well as groceries among other things. Lastly, finding work on base is really hard since I am not a military spouse and do not have a college degree. It's sad when getting hired at Subway requires you to be either military or married to someone in the military...so that whole dream of being closer to Taz was put out as quickly as the fire started.
But...I am slowly dealing with these things and slowly working things out.
I found out last week that there is a position at my job that allows you 3 days off a week instead of the normal 2, and that two times out of the month (rather than just one) I could get a Saturday off. If I can move to this department, it would help me out a lot and would give me more time to spend with Taz so that I am not taking so many sick days. Also, while I would be making less money, we could plan more trips when I have 3 days off in a row.
The more I can see Taz and have time to go do things with her, the better my life will be and the calmer I will be. While I still do not agree with this Amazon in Germany, hate their policies and think that most the people who work there are complete dicks, that will not make me give up because I want to be able to save up money for a house.Taz has been working really hard to work around this schedule with me and she has been my rock while I have complained and thrown fits over the whole issue. I think coming to terms with what I have been given and what I can do to make my relationship work around it has really made me settle down and just accept the fact that life is not fair ad I knew all along that these next few years would be really difficult.
Hopefully things continue to get better and this department change becomes a reality. But until then, I just wanted to let everyone know that I am slowly working things out and that tings are becoming slightly better as I get a grip on the things that need to be done in order for me to get the most out of this German experience.
Lastly, while I originally did not want to move from my flat here in Neusass, I have found a flat closer to my job and in a main city. It opens up in August, and if all goes will with visiting this place then I will move there and then have no problem getting back and forth to work. This will also place me closer to Taz and I will also be a lot closer to my German friends who also live there in Augsburg. So yeah :)Please wish me luck!!!
