Work
Today I am annoyed at apparently a few things that are work related. My boss basically tells me that a big portion of my job is to save the company money. I am fairly annoyed because up to this point he has/will not listen to me about actually raising our prices or adding an administrative fee to our invoices to help absorb some of the rising costs in flooring/building industry. While I do know that he is within his rights to ignore my opinions about his company, I am annoyed because he wants me to help save him/company money.
I am concerned about maternity leave that is coming up here pretty soon. I mean it will be starting in a month at the latest. (OMG...I can't believe my baby will be here so soon.) And I am slightly worried about the company overall. I mean when I started telling Jeff some of the things that have been changing with making payments and ordering, it feels like I have become so intertwined within the company that it will actually be difficult for Jeff to run the company when I am gone. I mean he even offered to just have me come in for a couple of hours a week so that I can help him still place and pay for orders.
Today, the major thing that is bothering/annoying me is that really the only way for me to save my boss/company any money is for me to go get certified to be able to handle payroll. Which right now, in my head is basically equivalent to intertwining myself so far into the company that I am never able to take time off. And on top of that thought there is the fact that we just switched our Workers Compensation Insurance to the payroll company that we use, which basically means even if I go and get my payroll certification, I now have to do even more because now I have to change insurance companies that I just switched.
God, I don't know what to do about it. I mean I could take the idea to my boss, but then if he accepts the idea, am I really okay with how much the company actually depends on me at this point, versus the amount that the company will rely on me once I get my certification.

Update: Still not sure what to do! Baby will be here in at most 12 days. The closer it gets the easier it is to annoy me, and work is probably the worst area of annoyance. The boss keeps confusing vendors about payment plans and then expects me to fix it when he doesn't tell me what he actually agrees to. I wish he would stop talking to these people because it is so frustrating to think that it is done, and then to find out that he goes and agrees to something else without bothering to tell me... Like I have said before, I understand that it is his company, but he hired me as the office manager and then won't even let me do my job. He won't even take the time to discuss what I think really needs to be done in order to get us straight so while I am on maternity leave he doesn't get a call every day to try and deal with bills and such that should have already been taken care of either previously, or at the very least before I actually go on maternity leave.
I am still considering whether or not to do the payroll certificate. I think I might because I would rather him just put me on salary instead of hourly, and I think being able to save money on payroll costs will be one of the easiest ways to do that. It does suck though since we just changed one of our insurances to go through our current payroll processer, but maybe it will save the company more money in the long run.
Hmmm...well I guess I can give more updates today... First of all...my baby is doing great. Getting bigger and bigger every day. Currently, I have still not brought up the payroll certificate for a few reasons. One I do not want to be that involved in the company week to week. Currently, I can take a vacation and not feel bad about being gone. If payroll were solely on me, I would feel like I wasn't able to take time off. Secondly, I will not take over payroll unless some of the things are changed. One, I want salary pay, I will forgo vacation pay to get it. Two, I want my coworker to be changed. He should be getting either salary and commission or hourly, it should not be both.
But back to the reason why I am sad today. The salesman and warehouse guy both took off to help out on a job, and my boss also had to leave. Before he left, he apologized for having to leave me at work alone. It makes me both sad and mad. Sad because he thinks that I depend on them being here, and mad because that is what he fucking hired me to do. How stupid is it that even after 2 years of working here the rules have not changed. I want them to change so badly. I cannot take payroll if things do not change.
