Won a Lifelong Friend to Christ Today

I had a friend, who years ago, we partied hard just after he came home from Vietnam.  His older brother was killed there.  I moved away in the early 70s and was gone from this area for 35 years.  I moved back 4 years ago, last Nov.  He and I rekindled our friendship and last year, he was diagnosed with cancer.  He never was a church goer.  I went to see him a few times and we would talk about old times.  We would see each other at the local garages, etc.
I became very burdened for him so, a few weeks ago, I went by his house and we sat and talked about life, his cancer, family, etc.  I began to talk to him about eternity and asked him if he had been given any thought to the end, when it came.  He told me yes.  I told him that I knew he had never been a church goer and that I would like to come to see him and talk to him about the Lord.  He said that would be ok.  I shook his hand and told him I did not want to see him go out into eternity without Christ.  He teared up, as did I and he said "I know Pee Wee".  
Last week, I went to see him and he had just got home from 6 hours at the cancer center.  He was very tired and I told him that I would not stay but that I would be back in a few days and we would discuss things about the Lord.  He said "I don't know much about that but, I will listen to what you have to say". 
Today, I went to see him and he was setting in his chair. He said he had a rough morning but, was feeling better.  We sat and talked awhile about the upcoming election this fall, etc., then, I asked him if we could talk about eternity and he said yes.  I explained eternity, how the thief on the cross was saved, the Phillipian jailor and I explained God's simple plan of salvation.  When I asked him if he would like to pray with me, he said yes and we prayed together, the tears were running down his face.  After we finished praying, I told him that I had been praying for him for a long long time.  He said, "I know you have".  He had tears running down his face and I explained to him that he was now in the Lord's hands, in His safe keeping, and he did not have to worry, any more.  I asked him how that felt and he said "it feels good".  I shook his hand and we talked a while longer and I told him if he needed me day or night, to call me and I would be there.  He smiled through his tears and said, "I know you will".
His countenance totally changed after we prayed.  He had a smile on his face and he was trembling a little.  I know that he will be ok now, regardless of what happens in the future.  He is now ready.  Praise the Lord.  He is 63 years old and we have been friends since childhood. 
Leading people to Christ, is what I do.   He has not been visited by any other preacher here in town.  There are 8 churches here and he has lived here over 25 years.  Makes you wonder where these Pastor's hearts and priorities are, doesn't it?
