Winter
The days are getting shorter and the sun is barely out. The clouds rolls in and blanket the sky but under this grey is not warmth but a bitter cold that is so unwelcome.
I am starting to feel the season overcome my emotions. I feel sleepy all day long. My face drained of its entire glow and my mood starting to feel like the grey of the sky. Sometimes I don’t know if it is the cold weather which makes me feel chills or my depression making my body tremble with sadness and fright.
This winter will be a hard one. I foresee many challenges and tests. The winds will be bitter cold, the snow wet and heavy, and my journey unbearably long and bleak. Will my fire within keep me warm enough for the long season to come? I assume so. I will layer clothes and wear the proper things to get me by. I will ration the things I know how to do and only use what I must. I will try to not let my mind wonder too far ahead in the white wash of the landscape. I am preparing for a long winter. I will seek shelter when need be but, I am traveling to seek greener pastures. We all know that it isn’t the walk we take but time that changes the seasons. I must keep active so that time doesn’t freeze and seize up on me. That my heart doesn’t get cold or my limbs become so numb that they are no longer able to move. At times I will only know that I am alive by the sight of my warm breath exhaling out of this body into the bitter sweet, cold winter’s day.
