Wild weekend

Yesterday, I got up and went uptown for my morning coffee and chit chat with the guys who are usually there.  I came home and my wife and I went to a neighboring town to get some groceries and some other odds and ends.  We had some friends from our church coming over for dinner at our home.  I hadn't slept too well from the night before due to being at the hospital with another member of my church and, staying with him during the passing of his wife. We were on our way home when my cell phone rang.  I answered it and it was another friend of mine.  Her step daughter had slit her wrist and had taken a bunch of pills.  They were rushing her to a hospital in another neighboring town, West of where I was.  I dropped  my wife off at our home and took off for the other Hospital ER.  When I arrived there, they had no record of this lady coming in.  I looked out the ER doors and saw the drive up at the ER doors.  I ran out of the doors and this girl was in the back seat of the car, her arm was wrapped up and she was semi-comotose. Her step mom told me to "get her".  I opened the door, grabbed her feet, pulled her to the edge of the seat where I could get an arm around her.  I then picked her up and carried her into the ER.  An EMT was standing inside the door and he directed me to a room where I laid her down on the bed and the Nurses started work on her.  They tried to find out what she had taken, as far as pills were concerned. they got her on an I V and the docotr came in and they started their tests, EKG's etc.   I stayed with the family until they had er stabilized and finally admitted her to the hospital.  I then came home and went to a Church business meeting. This morning, we went to church and we baptized  2 more people after the morning service.  We went and ate lunch and came home, hoping to relax a little and then, the phone rang and it was the funeral home, giving me the arrangements for the lady who had passed away Frinday night.  We had to help them line up singers and they also asked me to play as special song for the funeral  that the family had requested.  My wife then had to contact all our church members to let them now of the funeral arrangements and to get arrangements made for our church to provide a dinner, for the family, after the service on Tuesday. Tomorrow, I must go  back to the hospital and visit with the girl who slashed her wrist and tried to commit suicide, on Sat.  Needless to say, this has been a very eventful weekend to say the least but, I am thankful that people trust me and call me when they have emergencies like this, so I can be there for them.  This is what I do. This is who I am.
