Why was I so dumb?
So I return from 2 days out of town which were supposed to be relaxing and I was supposed to catch up on sleep. The RSD has always been under control as long as I take my meds on a schedule. Sometimes I forget. I know I shouldn't even dare say that with all the people here untreated or mistreated by docs, but I got home, played with my son, then went to bed late last night. I slept from about 2am or so to early evening! So I slept about 24-26 hours. My body just needed sleep SO badly that I had to sleep. My hubb's been pretty good about the RSD and losing my doctor, and while we have our little spats he has never blamed me for having RSD or treated me like a burden. In fact, in the coldest months, he even agrees to sleep in the guest room so my foot or his doesn't wander. I can't bear my foot being touched and knowing I had the bed to myself, I slept really well. And Hubby was great, taking care of our son as he does every Saturday so I can catch up on sleep. I hardly ever sleep this long, but he knew I needed it.
My big problem was that I slept so long I missed a few doses of meds. Which meant I woke up with my foot hurting so bad that I thought I'd injured it in my sleep. I wasn't sure if it was day or night and all the time, my meds were next to me on the night table. Once I was fully awake, I realized how long it had been and quickly took my pills. But my foot had turned bluish and was ice cold on the outside, and sweating. The pain, which I always describe as icy fire, was enough to make me cry. I was so stupid! I KNEW that the weather had turned cold, which always brings the RSD pain out and the symptoms, and I knew that I had cracked a window before bed. I love to sleep in the cold, fresh air, but I always wake up to shut it before there's problems. I also knew that I had driven that day and that always makes my back AND foot ache, but I still let myself sleep. So in this instance, the pain is my fault. And what makes me angry is that it'll take 2-3 days to get back on schedule.
I guess it is why I am awake at 5:20am on a Sunday. I slept all day Saturday so now my sleep schedule is messed up. I've tried to go to sleep but I can't get there. I've taken a sleep aid but it doesn't want to work. I'm afraid to do too much and then again, I wonder if I should get up and just stay awake? I can't do much b/c of the foot.
My biggest worry now is that I'm STILL searching for a new pain doctor. I don't want my RSD to be so bad when I am looking for a doc. I went years with so few incidents. If I just had set my phone to wake me, I wouldn't have missed my meds. This is a rookie mistake, not something someone with RSD of 14 years does. I'm angry with myself.
Hubby's going to get up with Jaden, I could sleep all day if I needed. But unless I fall asleep soon, it won't matter. I need to remember to stay on schedule. Meanwhile the foot is no longer bluish and is back to a normal color. It's still sweating a bit but not badly and the pain is lower than when I woke up earlier. I'll give it till Monday, and hope it goes back to normal.
