Why Shao-Lin Monks live in the now

Last entry, I talked about how grounding exercises to keep your mind on the "right now" is effective as a cure for depression, anxiety, addiction, PTSD and probably every other distraction in life.
BUT... what if you have a REAL PROBLEM happening "right now" so being grounded in the right now can't help?  Being grounded is fine if you're troubled by memories of the past or fears about tomorrow.
But what if you're staring at a chainsaw wielding maniac zombie psycho killer... with EBOLA!!!
OK, in the unlikely event that RIGHT NOW you're in danger, by being TOTALLY GROUNDED AND AWARE of what's going on right now you'll be able to use 100% of your mind to deal with it.
That's also why Buddhist Monks in stories always know kung fu.  They live in the Now and if anything in the now is a danger they are trained to destroy it and move on.
So learn to live in the here and now... and study self defense and what to do in an emergency in case one happens.  Also first aid, how to use a fire extinguisher, and anything any action hero can do in a crisis or an eagle scout can do when lost in the woods.
