Why I joined

I guess I came looking for a support group because I'm having a hard time dealing with people. Mostly I've been taking care of my son, and maybe hiding behind that to avoid them. I feel uncomfortable around them, especially after they find out I'm a widower.
I miss my wife, but at the same time I also miss having someone to share my life with, and if I ever do again, it will have to be someone very special. I've been having a hard time with this, it seems like every time I'm seen talking to a woman, someone asks if I'm planning to date her.
I've been able to change my lifestyle, quit smoking (I do vape, hoping to quit that next year), rarely drink, eat healthier, and exercise daily. I've lost 50 pounds, gained a lot of it from eating fast food, and sitting on the couch drinking beer after my son went to bed.
I came here looking for people who would understand, and I'm gad I did.

Sounds like you have made some positive personal changes on this journey. I am proud of you! As for dating, you will know when the time is right. As you said to me \"don\'t push yourself too much\". Take care of you and your son. Sending healing thoughts your way. xo, D

you are further along in this journey than me. I lost my husband of 32 years Jan 2015 and my mother in March 2014. I tie the two together as well. My hats off to you for dealing with your losses. Keep your chin up!

Hi Eric, I to am trying to better my lifestyle. I quiet smoking before my husband passed away but sense then I have started again. I don\'t eat very well anymore either. My son is 7 now and he doesn\'t eat well either. So congrats to you on bettering your health. Its only been 7 weeks sense my husband passed and the pain is some days unbearable! I am glad to read your posts and see that there is some light at the end but it will be a long journey.
