Why don't people understand
Why don't people especially doctors understand how it feels to struggle with weight? The other night I was at the ER because I was having pain in my legs and knees. First of all I had to wait almost four hours to even see the doctor. Finally, when I was able to see the doctor; the bitch acted like she had better things to do than worry about why I was there and treating me like a person. What really upset me was when I was telling her what was wrong with me she said well maybe if you would just lose a little bit of weight you would not have these problems. So here is this skinny little doctor who probably has never had a weight problem in her life acting like she understands what I go through. Doesn't she think I don't friggen know that I have a weight problem. I just wish people would understand that when you have a weight issue and you are addicted to food; losing weight is easier said than done.

Hey there are 500lb people that still get around and dont have the pain we do.I used to be extremely skinny ,ive put on weight as a result of the pain and meds etc not the other way around. Some people are so rude!Being overweight has become the new group to be discriminated against.
There is still a stigma about being overweight. It\'s always easy for someone else to tell you to lose the weight. It\'s never easy and never will be. It certainly didn\'t get there overnight and it won\'t come off overnight. I\'ve found though, that many ER drs don\'t care about a lot of the patients that come in through their doors. I was in the ER years ago with chest pain and shortness of breath. It wasn\'t cardiac and the dr told me that they \"don\'t do any testing in the ER, they only treat the symptoms and send you home.\" I was given anti-anxiety and pain meds and left for hours before anyone came to check on me and send me home. Several months later, I was in the ER again with a pulmonary embolism, a blood clot in the lungs, usually fatal. I had a different dr that night and he saved my life. You just don\'t know sometimes if that ER dr cares or not. However, mjadaa is right, we are discriminated against and so far, it\'s ok to do so.
I am a recovering food abuser. I know from the inside what you are talking about. This is one more reason we are going to be good friends.
As I read your journal entry, I can feel your pain and frustration. Both my daughters are overweight, and I understand your struggle very well.
My youngest daughter, Colleen, is extremely overweight, but she is also a very sick Down Syndrome child of 21. A year ago I took her to a cariologist who, after a quick examination of her heart, told me that she needed to loose weight then she would be healthy again. He suggested that I force her to excercise, to loose weight. I took her to another cardiologist, and he discovered that she has heart failure. By forcing her to excercise, the heart failure and poor lung function can lead to her death.
What some people can\'t understand, is that being overweight is just a small part of who you are. You are also a woman, a young person, a human being with hopes, dreams, a strong character, emotions, a very unique personality, etc. I will not risk to kill my daughter, just to make her socially acceptable to some people!! I love her unconditionally, just the way she is!
That nurses comment was totally innapropriate and rude. I get called names like chicken legs and told I am too skinny and that I should eat more. Well no matter how much I eat my weight remains the same. Just barely at wear it needs to be most of the time. Also, people are idiots when they assume that people who are either overweight or underweight either eat too much or don\'t eat period. Sometimes, I wonder why even bother eat! I actually starve myself sometimes due to depression
