Why does public vindication matter?

My Daughter in law messaged me Late last night. The US Navy has changed their position and has finally decided that they were culpable in my son's PTSD and subsequent suicide. ...up to now, they have been claiming he had a personality disorder from childhood...we were unaware of any such disorder, as were his Dr.s and teachers...because it simply did not exist before his service. I am grateful to God for showing favor in this
There is a documentary showing on Link TV and certain Dish and cable channels to be aired tomorrow. It is called Searching For Home, Coming Back From War. It focuses on PTSD and its impact on veterans and their families. I would encourage anyone with a friend or family member in the armed forces or having served..to watch this. It is a powerful film. Our part is very minor, but the other stories are eye opening. If you search the title, you should get more info...it is also available on  iTunes and Amazon.
i am also doing a workshop Thursday evening. It will be geared to friends and family of grieving parents. I hope to empower them with resources and ideas of what to say and what not to say, when the situation may arise. I need your prayers, truly. I have never spoken in front of people..I do not even read or pray out loud in our small group study. This is so totally out of my comfort zone, and I am a bit nervous. Help.

Hi Lauri. I will try to find it!
I worked in a veterans\' care centre and met many former soldiers who suffered PTSD, or were demented as a result of alcohol abuse, which I believe was often a result of PTSD. It was heartbreaking. The thing that I noticed was that families were also broken. PTSD affects more than the former soldier.
You are the ideal person to be doing the workshop. The participants will be able to relate to you - it is not some \'expert\' talking at them who knows nothing about the realities. I believe you will be great as you will be speaking from the heart.

Hi Lauri,
I hope to see the documentary too. I cannot imagine living one second to the next on edge of the next bullet or bomb. I have a real compassion for those who have been at the war front. It is hard to switch off the PTSD when the soldier comes home. I know it does not change the fact that your son is gone but I hope in some small way it helps you and your family.

We went to our church\'s second grief workshop last night. Our leaders lost a son several years ago. They are very good facilitators and if you would like to talk to me about our experience in our church workshop on grief, you can message me and I will message back my phone number. Otherwise you have my prayers. You will do wonderfully. You truly want to help those who are grieving and I believe it is the purpose God intends for you and I think you will be fantastic at it.
Sending love and prayers,
Leda

We all need more compassion, understanding and loving kindness. I will try to find that documentary. I cannot imagine the trials these courageous men and women face on a second by second basis and then to try to come home and integrate back into life as it once was just cannot be for the shoe no longer fits. Deepest of sighs...

You will be that heart with ears dear Lauri and just ask to be guided as to what the group needs to hear. It is an organic kind of thing where much will be birthed in the moment and you are that conduit of grace and love and remember... the messenger.

I was asked to speak to a group about addiction just months after my loss of Douglas and I asked him to BE with me and to help guide me. I honestly cannot remember what I said or didn\'t say, yet there were tears and hugs after so perhaps something was meaningful??? Yet, what was most healing was what it did for ME. I found a courage and strength I did not believe that I had and I sense this is what may happen with you. It is a path and one you are BEing called to walk.

Please let us know how it unfolds and just speak from your heart as Marlene said because that is where your truth IS.

Loving care,
XO Joanie

Heartbreaking... but so glad you\'re speaking the truth... having come to adulthood late 60\'s I felt like we were surrounded by the horrors of what war does to young men... I used to wonder how on earth can people think we can send our young men away to experience what these young men (and now days young women too... ) do and think they can come home to be gentle loving young men they were... I saw it in my own father... I didn\'t realize why daddy was so harsh... then one day we were cleaning up the area in the alley by the trash cans... and I saw a letter from my grandma, my daddy\'s mother... and in it she talked to daddy about how heart broken she was at the changes she had seen in him including his harshness with us kids... and she said she felt like his time in Korea had caused a lot of his coldness... and thinking about it and hearing other family talk about the gentle tender man my father had been... I came to believe that war changes people... and I hope maybe by acknowledging it... we can help these young people find their ways back home...

Speaking in front of a group is hard, but it can be so very rewarding too. I hope your experience is a good one. You will be helping someone for sure. Hugs, Kathy xoxox
