Why Are Musicals So Popular?

When thinking about musicals you can not help but thing about Andrew Lloyd Webber. He has achieved the most success in musical theatre and runs one of the largest theatre companies in London. He can be blamed for producing the longest running musical production ever and also the highest grossing ever. The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its 10,000th Broadway performance on 11 February 2012 which is the first musical to do this and it's still going strong now. His abilities at generating musicals are legendary and long may they last.

Les Misérables is another musical that has been operating for over 20 decades. More than 60 million individuals around the world have seen the stage musical over 40 countrys. If you'd like a great cry, then visit your theatre and see it.

The history of musicals goes quite a way. I once seen the Amphitheatre near Taormina in Sicily and you can bet it viewed its fair share of musicals at its time. The Romans are thought to have copied the Greek theaters' and done in enclosed wooden structures. They attached metal chips to the displays to enhance the sound of their dancing. I am guessing these could be classed as the first tap shoes.

There is something simply fantastic about musicals when they are done well. As a child the most recorded and watched movies on TV for me were musicals. I remember spending hours perfecting the exact skip Dorothy does down the yellow brick road! The more I think about it the more I realise that I had been brought up on musicals.

However, what is it about musicals which make them so popular now? I believe that it's simply cause they use dance and song to enhance a story. But I believe that it takes a particular sort of director and choreographer to make a musical function. Having seen plenty of productions of the exact same musical it seems the success is really down to how well it is produced. Two or three years ago I needed my mother to see "We will Rock you" and it was just wonderful. It actually provides you the feel good element.

I can not await the next big musical to hit the stage. Soy una taza have always needed to burst into song and dance whist doing my weekly shop at Tesco's! Maybe I want to arrange this, get a set of friends, prepare a dance and have some songs prepared. I bet it'd make all of the shoppers stop and observe and provide them the feel good factor that most of the finest musicals provide you.
