WHO ARE YOU?

I have been asked this question many times and I have been dealing with some real issues lately so, I sat down today and in a few minutes, I wrote this poem.

                                     WHO ARE YOU?

I've been asked this question many times
              By young and old alike
So I thought I'd write some answers down
In this poem of my life

              Born in nineteen forty four
The smallest of twins was I
The doctors had little hope for me
In a short time, they said I'd die

I made it and I grew up poor
On a farm that my mother had
I worked very hard all my life
My best friend was my dad

I married young, nineteen years old
A dad before I was twenty
There was no love in her for me
And the tears I shed, were plenty

I tried to make the marriage work
But, it ended in seventy two
I became and addict to booze and drugs
And I became a Biker, too

My life has been filled with sadness
Never felt loved by any one
I tried to  be a friend to all
Then came the death of my son

I've never been through something like that
And I never want to again
Part of me died that July day
My emotions went into a spin

              My heart was genuinely broken
              Shattered like the finest glass
              Each broken piece had memories
From then, back to my past

So, here I am in my sixties
Not worth much to any, I know
But I keep reaching out to others
With my heart, as only I know

To say a word or touch a life
Dry the tears of those who are sad
              To encourage the broken hearted
I know how it hurts so bad

Love is like a great King's fortune
Its' value, only known by few
So realize what my heart is saying
When I say that "I love you"

My pen writes, what my inner self feels
Like blood from my heart, love flows
              Rejected by some or misunderstood
But, by action and words, it shows

So again, my heart is broken
By neglect and a word called rejection
A feeling that has haunted me, all my life
No kindness, no love, no affection

So, now as I face the future
Though my face shows a smile, not a frown
I've been in this "Play" of life too long
They can bring the curtain down

I tried to show I had purpose
All the years, God knows I tried
But, I guess as the Bikers used to say
"Man, it's been quite a ride"!
