Which Got Me To Thinking....
My cable plan expires in a few days. I called the cable company and was told my new plan would cost me 200.00 a month and that's without a phone plan. So this reminded me of when I was a kid in the 1960s. Mom had taken me to a theater and there was a person in front asking her to sign a pettition to prevent the introduction of Pay TV. People were laughing at the guy, thinking how stupid it would be for anyone to pay for free TV.
And this got me to thinking of the time someone mentioned buying water. It was the 1960s and all water was free. Now I pay for my water and think nothing of it.
Which got me to thinking of the guy I heard talking about men and women using the same rest rooms and dressing rooms. This was the 1970s and I was on a bus. His friend told him he was a fool. Never happen. Wonder if he's still around hearing about the whole transgender thing. Parents picketed a school that allowed an intact male to use the girls locker room.
Which got me thinking of how people lived when they retired back in the 1950s. I did it this year. My days are filled surfing the web, watching TV via my too expensive cable plan, hanging out with friends and talking or texting relatives I haven't seen in more than ten years.
Which got me thinking, so I searched the web and found out if I'd lived in the 1950s I wouldn't have Medicare to look forward to, so I would have to pay out of pocket. I probably wouldn't travel because it just wasn't done that often back then. And I'd spend my days with family and friends, maybe playing cards or sitting on the porch talking, or listening to the radio. A few had TV, but my grandmother never did.
If you got sick---well, I read that they didn't work too hard on saving you from heart disease, cancer, and the other major illnesses. People died younger, but not by as much as I'd been lead to believe. Basically they died in their late 70s, not too different from today.
And this got me thinking about how much has changed--some for the good, some for the bad.

My cable plan is $180/mo. which includes cable with Showtime, internet and unlimited long distance on my landline phone.
I talked them down. I\'ll keep it for another year and then go all streaming.
Use Comcast phone, tv and internet. All the bells and whistles for $166.00 a month. Its saving me a bit over $100.00 over my old plan. You save where you can. All this technology gets beyond me at times. Just had major back surgery was home in 4 days and now 17 days out am back to living on my own. That wouldn\'t have happened in by gone by years. Things change. Hey, what\'s streaming mean ? See what I mean technically chalenged.
I pay almost $130.00/month for tv, internet and landline.....cell phone is around $70.00 but that\'s the way it is....if you want it, you gotta pay for it....
