Where do I begin
Where do I begin....The year 2008 has been one tragedy after another. I come from a very small family, only one brother. My only brother had the hardship in Feb. 2008 when he told us his wife left him for another man and filed divorce. We were all shocked, my brother devasted, he didn't see it coming. They have 3 beautiful children who were of no concern to her. My Mom and I tried to be there as much as possible for him. But some men don't want help, but we did manage to accomplish to get his house together during the summer when the divorce was final. My Mom was looking forward to spending more time with his kids while he was at work. I spent time with my Mom over the summer, I knew she was getting weaker. She has been more on chemo, than off for the last 9 years. I went back home to IL the end of July. As I said she was weaker, but the chemo had done damage to her body itself because she had been on it so long. On Aug. 8 Mom fell and broke her ankle. She had surgery to repair it. She was going to be in a rehab facility to learn to become mobile again. My Dad wasn't going to be able to help her at first. A few days before heading to rehab she wasn't able to urinate, but then she started and off to rehab she went. A few days into rehab the urinating stopping and she was catherized. It was obvious she was retaining fluids. After 6 days in rehab back to the hospital she went. The doctor indicated the cancer had taken over her liver and kidneys. He organs were shutting down. My family and I came in Labor Day weekend. We spent 2 hours with her because they took her for a test to relieve the fluid. After the test her blood pressure dropped and she fell asleep and gradually into a coma. This happened Saturday evening. We called the family because we didn't think she would make the night. The fighting woman that she was, she lasted until 5:00p.m. Monday, Labor Day. Surrounded by her husband, son, myself, her best friend, one of her sisters and 2 nieces. We watched her pass into God's arm. She was 68. She lived a wonderful life with her husband. She was a wonderful Mom and I have no regrets of our life together. My only wish is that we had more time together. 68 is too young to die. Now that I have Stage II breast cancer I believe God needed to take her. He knew she would be distraught and devasted to see me go through the same thing. Yet I would have found it a blessing to have her by my side through this. My parents live 6 hours away from me, but Mom would be here everyweekend if she could.
