When Life Gives You Lemons (art competition)

We took my painted bathroom door back down to the Va this morning for the art show. It was judged a week ago and they have been holding the results hostage till today. I brought my door in (hubby was carrying it like he does everything for me - such a sweetie, huh?) and placed it against the wall. They walked up to it and placed a 2nd place ribbon on it. I was actually expecting that because I had a dream the other day that I came in 2nd to a small crappy piece of art. The lady with the ribbon pointed over to a small painting almost opposite end of the room and said, "There's the 1st place winner of the acrylics. At 1st you 2 were both tied and we had to battle it out but we finally gave it to that one over there." I finally realized which one she was pointing to and got upset. It really WAS a crappy painting! At least compared to mine! I stomped my foot and said, "To THIS??!" They just looked at me. Jeff walked me out of the room. Several people walking down the hall complimented me on the door as I was quietly venting to Jeff about it. I would have gracefully accepted 2nd place if the art blew me away.
45 mins later we came back into the room when everyone was pouring in to see all the art. A lady came up to me and said, "Are you the one that painted the door?" I answered, "Yes, why?" "He wants to meet you...the guy that won." She brought me over to a man in a wheel chair with braces on his arms and legs and his head held in place. I noticed his L arm wasn't looking that bad so I asked him, "Hi, did you paint that with your L hand?" He looked up at me, "No, I painted with my mouth. The palm trees were the hardest to do. It took me over 2 months to do." He had a tear running down his face. "OK, you win! I could never paint with my mouth, especially not that door!" I felt bad for ever being upset.
This guy is a paraplegic. I'm guessing the art is all he has left in his life. All he can do that is enjoyable. He should have a few 1st place ribbons. You have to have some serious motivation to teach your self anything new at that point in your life, when all that can work is your mouth. I worked hard on my art, too, took about 2 or so months, too and it hurt... but I had my hands and my legs to stand. I also had a seat to sit in. This guy only had a mouth. The things people take for granted. When I say that, normal people just don't get it.
Sonnie, my bro, went homeless for a few days.... but he eventually found a studio and is moving his things in this weekend. He asked to borrow my truck Sunday. I told him he can only have it for one day. I'l make sure he puts gas in it, too. He also told Jeff that he will be moving his "fiance" in. Oh great. So he is getting that Filipino a green card. I don't want to have anything to do with her. I feel that is all she is using him for.
I have another cold. I don't know why ever since Christmas I keep getting sick. It was only a couple weeks ago I got over bronchitis. This is not normal and I don't know what's wrong.
For those wondering about how married life is going.... it is great! I married an awesome guy. He is very supportive. Every time I feel like I'm not a good wife... or I'm not doing enough (you know how it is with pacing your self and pain) he is so encouraging. He told me the other day that if he ended up with the same hand of cards dealt to him he would get severely depressed and might even give up on life. He said that I'm taking it very well and feels honored to be with me. I'm so lucky to have him.
In other news... my aches and pains come and go... the usual. Nothing new.
I hope you all have a happy March! God bless!

Awesome - second place is great! I\'ve had similar times where I kinda had to pull back when I got the whole story on something. Glad you got to meet the 1st place winner and have that perspective.

Glad married life is going well - supportive partners are priceless.

Sunz - 30 years is awesome! I hope our marriage is like yours! :)

Joyholy - I started taking a multi mineral pill but I don\'t think it contains phosphorous. Yeah we have tried talking to my bro several times about this girl but he wants to believe his own convictions. My mom told me the other day that she believes the other reason he is doing it is out of rebellion against the family. We aren\'t sure the reasons yet. She said that she married my dad in rebellion against her family back in the day and she sees him repeating it. Thank you for the support and prayers. :)

Magic & Peace - Thanks for your support! Thank you for being so happy for me. :)

angels - My husband has the pictures on his phone from the event... I have to find a way to get him to post them here. Or maybe I can just get him to download them on my lap top. hmm.... I\'m sure I\'ll figure it out. :)
