whats happening to me
I am a 56 year old woman who hasn't drunk alcohol in over 25 years, and even when I did drink it was only socially. After spending the last 30 or so years with what they told me was Irritable Bowel Syndrome, I was hospitalised with dehydration last August after what they're referring to as a "severe gastric attack", an ultrasound showed abnormalities with my pancreas, which after getting a CT scan showed as Chronic Pancreatitis with lesions on my liver also. They sent me for loads of blood, urine, faeces tests and these seemed to confirm the diagnosis. Also bothering me greatly at the time was a massive increase in saliva, almost to the point of constantly drooling (NOT a good look!). I went back to see my GP (a locum unfortunately, not my regular GP) he treated me like I was a nuisance, googled a medicine for "drool" and gave me a hard-core drug which I found out was for Parkinson's sufferers. The chemist warned me about it. I chucked it out when I got home and found out what it was, thinking I'd rather put up with dribbling. The saliva problem has since settled by itself, to some degree, although I'm still producing a lot more that I used to.
The Gastroenterologist I see at the hospital started me on Creon, not explaining how to use it, just with an instruction to take 5 with every meal and 3 with every snack. Caused all sorts of new pains and spasms. Got referred to a dietician who told me that I only needed to take Creon with fats and protein, she lowered the dosage and it now seems to be working better, now that I have been educated about it and have learned how to read food labels!
The new problem now, and the one causing me the most problems and confusion is my knee, is absolutely agony. I went back to Dr thinking I must have pulled a muscle whilst I was asleep (nothing else made sense!) but she told me its all part of Pancreatitis - joint pain being one of the problems associated with it. Well, excuse me but I was absolutely blown over by that, and still can't make sense of it really. She couldn't prescribe me with anti-inflammatories because of the problems with my digestive system, instead has given me codeine for the pain, but I can only take it at night as it causes nausea, a symptom I have almost 20 hours a day anyway. I wear a knee brace now, all the time, as my knee is apparently trying its hardest to dislocate itself. How can pancreatitis be doing this?
If there is anyone out there who knows what I'm talking about, and I'm sure there is, maybe you could throw a few tips or pointers my way about how to deal with this, and is there anything else random that might be going to start giving me problems??
I'm into natural healing as much as possible, prefer to take a natural or herbal remedy if at all possible, although I realise that some things need a bit more - like Pancreatitis!
