What's to come?

I was diagnosed with CLL after a routine blood test showed an extremely high white count.  I was referred to an Oncologist immediately and had more definitive tests done that confirmed CLL.  Initially, my primary care physician called me at work and told me that my white count was extremely high and was referring me to an oncologist stat.  This was on a Friday prior to a long weekend.  Her final words to me were, "I'm worried about a leukemia".  OMG.  Needless to say it was the worst weekend of my life and my families.  I didn't know what kind of leukemia and of course looked it up on line.  There are so many types and most are terrifying.  I currently have no symptoms and have to go back and see him in 3 months.  After 55 years of being a happy, easy going, not easily depressed person I find myself depressed and worried about what is to come.  Since this is the mildest form of the disease everyone was relieved.  I know that I have cancer and it is scaring the heck out of me.

Well, I\'m feeling better and no longer depressed. I\'ve decided to live my life like I was before I found out. I feel fine now and hopefully it will stay that way for a long time. I\'m allowing myself to not constantly think about having leukemia and trying to enjoy my life.

Hello Lori,
I\'m glad that you\'re feeling better. I try to tell people that I\'m living with leukemia, and not dying from it. I live life to the fullest every day.

You don\'t have to steal, let it be a present from me to you. I was watchful waiting for 10 years then my wbc got up to 190,000 and my oncologist decided to treat me with chemo. I ALWAYS felt fine... never felt sick before and during chemo. Would come home from chemo and go work in our gardens. After 6 cycles I\'m in complete remission as of August 2009. I wish you well, have fun, continue living.... enjoy everything that life has to offer.
