What's Going On? It's Going to Be Okay!!

I appreciate this forum immensely. I use this journal to vent, highlight and catalogue my experience with DDD. At present I am experiencing new unknown pain and, I quote Dorothy Parker I believe..." What fresh hell is this?". It's hard enough to deal with the usual DDD stuff on a daily basis, but up the ante by adding a new pain, a sharp nerve pain and what feels like bone pain too? Please give me a break...I mean that truly...please! I see my doctor on April 10th...must hold out and manage according to the six week protocol in place. Aleve is just not doing it for me. I try ice, heat, self-massage, rest, walking....arggh. Nothing is working for very long. I'm on Gabapentin again...unable to leave my home alone due to the short term memory loss and vision issues it gives me. I once got lost on my way home on the freeway...crying and swiping tears from my eyes I pointed the car in what I thought was the correct direction and hoped to recognize something...anything. I'm sure stress level on top of the med was a factor, but needless to say I do NOT want a repeat. So, I languish at home, reliant now on others to take me places. It doesn't happen often due to the now lack of friends.  I have my few friends but they are true blue...just quite busy with their own families and many acquaintances. I have learned to fill my excessive free time with other things, like reading and my Goodreads reviews. It helps. Books were my only friends as a child so I feel a little like I did then. Oh, I railed against the isolation that is DDD at first, most do. It does no good, doesn't change a thing about my condition. Thus I surrendered, first to God, then to this disease. In surrender, I found comfort knowing I'm not alone in the world. I am loved by God. This disease is not pleasant but I can be a vessal, used to help and support others I pray. I know what DDD will do to me in the future to some extent but I can't know how rapid the decline will be. Comparing myself to another patient doesn't work, for many factors are at work; age, prior conditions, past history of...well anything at all; knowledge of doctor, care team availability, support of friends and family... I can only trust God to be with me through it all, comforting me, providing me with monetary and emotional needs. I think, as I reflect on what I have now...that's a good place to be. DDD won't beat me unless I allow it to do so.

It is true...all you write. Find your distractions and stick with the six week plan. Just consider and ask is it harming me. I in no way want to be negative but as you said we are each different and if for some reason something in the PT is causing the new pain it should be stopped. Possibly you have alerted your physical therapist.

Prayers for continued healing and strength.

Thanks hippytoo. I have discussed this with my therapist. We backed off this week and tomorrow as we agreed, he\'s going to \" kick my backside\" to see if it helps or hinders. Thanks for the prayers. As I\'m sure you are well aware...a lot of DDD treatment is try and learn from the experience. We each have methods that work differently. This is why I welcomed the 6 wk protocol and will stick with it. I need to monitor my pain and see what exacerbates it. This one is a new one for me. Old pain, new area.
