What I really need are some friends
When I moved up to Maine, I picked an area which didn't have a lot going on.
There is a Grange, which I got involved with for a short while, but they were only open for a few Saturdays and then closed down because of a family issue involving the woman running the events.
There is another Grange right across the street from me, but it is never open.
The church across the street is a Baptist church (I'm a recovering Catholic), and would have had to convert, and after hearing (and seeing) what they were about, I didn't think that I could change my heart and mind enough to adapt that much.
I could not find any organizations to join, no clubs, no social gathering places, nor could I find a job within 30 miles of my house which interested me or would be interested me.
So I've spent my 7 years alone. The only people that I talk to are my family, most of whom think that it is their job to tell me what to do because they do not have any respect for me or faith that I can figure it out myself.
Truth be told, sometimes I do have trouble figuring out what I should do. I have always had these people telling me what to do. First my parents, then my husband, now my children and brother.
But all along, they have all led me wrong. To do what they told me I've had to ignore myself, and if I didn't ignore myself, and did what I wanted to do, I have had no help or support from them. Not only do they discourage me, but sometimes become actively obstructive towards me obtaining my goal.
