What He Left Behind
I was thinking of this today for some reason, what my husband left behind that meant a lot to him. It started with him studying for his securities test. He so much wanted to be a Certified Financial Planner, but the test are difficult, requiring much studying. With a full-time job it wasn't easy. Few people pass it, even after devoting a lot of time to it. But he did it. He was so proud. We both were.
His certificate arrived in the mail one month later. He wanted a frame so he could hang it on the wall in the den. He seached through several stores, looking for it, but could never find just the right one. Then he asked me, and I came up with a suggestion. Three days later he purchased the frame. He never got to use it. He died less than a week later.
So I was thinking about all the time we spend working toward a goal. It seems so important to us at the time, but what is the true worth of it? My husband had to leave the certificate here. I kept it, but I threw the frame out because without him, it had no meaning. I can't use the certificate, so all that hard work for nothing. All that time we could have enjoyed. I don't know, it just seems wrong on so many levels. If I were insane, I'd send them to him. But even if it were possible, he couldn't use them there either. Athiest or Thiest, we all know that what's here on earth can't be taken after we're gone.
Guess I'm in a mood today.
