What Everyone Ought To Know About Indoor Playground Business
In an earlier blog post, I spoke that the 7 things I do in my indoor playground business as I have grown and matured as a company owner.
I chased Michael Hyatt, who, in most of his books and programs continuously describes designing your perfect weeks and days as"the appetite zone." Operating inside your dream zone, as he explains it, simply means you are spending the bulk of your time doing what you love AND are good at.
At Growing Vines Cafe and Play, we have picked our unique private birthday parties as the main focus of our business.
Due to this focus, I have chosen to personally plan the primary aspects of each party we host. When someone publications their event with us, they get a detailed confirmation which includes my own contact information and mentions that I'm personally in touch as their event draws near.
While I do not typically handle the execution of our parties, I do still act as the main touchpoint for parents and collect all their information and tastes. Ten days before each party, I send out a personalized party"questionnaire" which comprises all of the details we've gathered up to that point, provides additional day-of information, and inquires about last-minute particulars.
I answer all queries that the host might have in reaction to that email and-- after some back-and-forth communication-- I list all of their event information on that which we call a"celebration prep sheet." According to customers' options, I make a listing for every one of our sellers (catering, party supplies, balloons, paper goods, etc.) and will usually have a team member complete the purchasing and arrange all of the supplies so that they are grouped by party. Since we have up to 6 comprehensive events in 1 weekend, this business is indispensable!
The party-prep sheet is an extremely detailed document that makes it possible for any of our party hosts to execute the occasion to the specific specifications of their parents, leaving no rock unturned. This has allowed me to have most weekends free yet still feel confident we are delivering an above-and-beyond birthday celebration experience.
After the celebration, we deliver a survey to every hosting household. Should they have opinions, whether it be negative or positive, I follow up personally. This closes the loop on clients' experience and makes certain they understand I genuinely care for their child's special day. This process has lead to a substantial number of repeat bookings and consistent referrals from past parties.
Not only is planning these parties some thing I excel in, but I also take great joy inside . Event planning is the way I got into the business in the first place, therefore I'm more than pleased to take on this task. If I'm ever feeling overwhelmed with the facts, I know I have amazing team members that I will lean on.
Speaking of our incredible team members, yet another task I choose to get a hand in is our hiring and firing process. While I do leave the final conclusion to our cafe manager, I would rather write the project posts and descriptions and filter through resumes and applications before bringing anybody in for a meeting.
Having spent many years hiring and firing my fair share of employees, it is easy for me to see red-flags on applications and also find"diamonds in the rough" Since we have the majority of our standard operating procedures optimized and documented, I would rather hire based on character and enthusiasm instead of experience.
I also make sure I welcome every employee to our team and touch base with them often to check in and collect feedback from them.
Another job that lies within my current"desire zone" is digging the overall direction of our business and coming up with fresh ways to best serve our community.
Since I no longer spend some time doing those 7 things (and more!) , my time and energy have been freed up to investigate what our ideal clients want and want and find out a way to incorporate that in our business model.
As an example, I noticed that our birthday celebration bookings were slowing down in the Summer. When I asked a couple of clients, they mentioned that they DID adore our occasions and attention-to-detail but chosen a Summer party to be out at their home (since many have backyards and pools). We then started offering mobile events, where we would bring food, decorations, and activities for your children to their homes, and it was a hit!
Another illustration is our occasions . We are constantly adding fun new events that enable customers, particularly working parents with limited weekday accessibility, to visit us out of open hours and receive an enhanced experience through the subject of the event, class, or activity.
If I had been I still doing EVERY task in my business, I wouldn't have nearly enough time to do as much innovation or research.
When it comes to understanding how to innovate and what to offer, it all starts with forging a real connection with customers.
It's for this reason that I really like interacting with our clients in-person (when I can) and on social networking. I choose to work celebrations, events, as well as open-play when my family's schedule permits it so I can stay involved and aware of what is happening during the day. It also gives me the opportunity to observe how customers are using our space first-hand and listen to any concerns or queries they have. Although in this age of technology you can find reviews, types, and polls, I have found that NOTHING can replace having a face-to-face conversation with customers who use your distance (and probably visits competitors too!) on a daily basis.
It is because of this that you will even see billionaire CEOs visiting retail locations on a regular basis. Howard Schultz, the former CEO of Starbucks, was renowned for seeing hundreds of stores around the nation every year, spending some time with all the clients who were spending their money on his merchandise.
I love being a family owned and operated company, and that I love for my clients to understand that I am completely invested in their happiness.
5) HELP OTHER ENTREPRENEURS ALONG Precisely the Same PATH
While I do one-on-one consulting for individuals hoping to start out indoor playgrounds, I do spend a substantial amount of time creating absolutely free content for them on my blog and over on YouTube. I also have a totally free, 44-page eBook for play-cafe-owning hopefuls they can download right on our website or by clicking here.
If someone consumes that free information and determines they still would love to proceed with their plans, I also have an online program called Play Cafe Academy where I help entrepreneurs gain from daydream to opening-day in significantly less time and with less strain than they ever believed possible.
When I was researching this company model, there wasn't a lot of information out there. Current owners really keep all of their business secrets near their vest, and I do not blame them! Even in the event that you charge a consulting fee, you're still sort of giving away the secrets that you've worked so difficult for and it's very easy as a business owner to acquire a little smug and protective of your research and development.
When it came time to open my own company, I wound up making a slew of errors (and I suggest a TON of errors ) since I simply didn't know any better. So when I started getting emails and calls to consult for other possible play cafe owners, www.arcadereview.org I couldn't keep all this information to myself. As soon as it's easy for me to feel like an imposter or that there are other small business owners more capable than me to share this information, I know that there's a 4-years-ago me sitting somewhere waiting for another idea to jump out in them.
And frankly, I don't want to see one more company close because somebody who's walked before them did not share any information! So why not discuss it myself?!
But my time is precious. I have two small children and also run another business... I do not have 12 hours to devote hand-holding each perspective owner through the procedure. (And allow me to tell you, it is going to take at least 12 to 24 hours of compensated one-on-one consulting to break the surface of what you require, including documentation.)
Students may go through these modules at their own pace, and I don't need to spend the time to walk my students throughout the program.
This allows me to help other entrepreneurs in their course while also reserving time and energy I need for my loved ones and other commitments.
I understand many owners that choose to do all the things inside their small business, and it works for them because most of us have distinct"desire zones"
Are and may design my"perfect" weeks so. If I was burning the candle on both ends trying to tackle everything , I would do myself, my loved ones, and my clients a significant disservice.
