What a horrible end to the week!
My first night of stims was Wednesday night (Bravelle/Menopur). DH prepared the injection and did the sticking this time. The stinging and burning was so intense it was almost unbearable. I was screaming and crying in pain. I was honestly not expecting that after having a relatively easy time with the Lupron. It lasted about 10 minutes and then finally went away. I didn't feel too bad yesterday physically or mentally during the day, but I did feel more tired than usual.
Last night, we got shot #2 ready. This time DH let it sit for a few minutes after constituting. We also moved further down on my stomach, below my belly button. All of my Lupron shots have been within the same spot since the beginning since I haven't bruised or anything, so we thought maybe doubling up with the same spot would be bad. This time it went much better. It did still sting pretty badly, but not enough to make me cry or even tear up. I did a lot of jumping around while putting pressure on it with a lot of "Oh it hurts! It hurts! Oh ouch!" I was so thankful it wasn't as bad.
BUT then I called my parents. (Sidebar: I graduated from college in 2001 and adopted two kittens. I was living with my parents at the time, right up until I got married in 2006. When we bought our house, my mom wanted me to leave the cats with her because even though they were mine, she said we'd be traveling too much and they were attached to her and wouldn't handle the move well. She was right, so Alex and Elizabeth stayed with her even though they were still "my" cats.) Elizabeth was acting horribly sick that morning, but they weren't sure what was going on. She couldn't walk, couldn't eat, couldn't drink and she was meowing weird. She was also bleeding some from her mouth. They took her to vet, and they wanted $900 to do a bunch of tests to determine what was wrong with her. They said it could be feline leukemia. Her mouth was full of infected sores which was preventing the eating and drinking. She was so dehydrated that she couldn't stand up anymore. They gave her an IV and a shot and sent her home. This morning my stepdad said she was in really bad shape. She hadn't moved at all from where they laid her last night. She couldn't even meow anymore. I knew that she needed to be put down. If $900 would cure her, I would have paid it in a second. But $900 to tell me what's killing my cat?
So my stepdad took her this afternoon and she is no longer suffering. The worst part is that my mom said she was trying to purr when she was petting her one last time. It's so confusing because we were just there on Saturday and she was acting fine, just like her usual self, begging for food from the table and wanting someone to pet her constantly. We only live a half an hour from my parents so I'm over there all time. I can't understand how she was fine on Wednesday and dying on Thursday, but the vet said this was affecting her for a long time and she was in really bad shape.
Today is one of those days where I can't believe I'm trying IVF to get pregnant, the whole process is getting more difficult to handle, AND my cat died. I've put a picture of her in my photos so I can look at it and smile. Farewell, dear friend. Good thing I believe that animals go to heaven too. God is good.
