What a Change Of Night Plans
We left to go pick up mom to go to my nephews grad....everyone is excited....
We arrived to pick up mom about 45 min before time to be there...We get there
where she lives and I don't see her...
Over in a corner, sitting at one of the dining table, sits a small picture of a women,
all alone just starting in space...looking so sad, so lost....I start to turn to go to
my mom's room and then I realize that person sitting so alone that's my mom...
I nearly ran to her to see what happened....She tells me she is verry sick...just has
no energy...wanted to go to bed but they had told her she couldn't...Then I reached
to give her a kiss and she has a high fever.....To be all....I asked are you on the
antibodies and she does not know what they give her...then my sister is calling
to see if we are coming...I said ...well, mom's not...I don't know about us...So
here was what happened...On Monday my sister asked them to call the doctor to
get mom's on antibodies, the script was processed on Tuesday this week....the g
girl working their looks at mom's papers and said she just completed a 10 day
of medicines...I say How can that be, if the script was just called in on Tuesday
and this is Thursday...also they had not bothered to test of fever or blood
pressure...So I said what about her antibodies...the girl calls the pharmacy....
They never received it...so the girl says guess it got lost...so she say she will
fax it tomorrow....I say NO WAY...mom is very sick, I want her on them tonight
So she calls and ask if they will deliver tomorrow....and hung up...I said I am going
to go get them....oh the girl says and calls the pharmacy back and asked if that
was okay...Needless to say I am not having a good evening....I go get mom in
bed she can not even walk..I a pushing her in her walker....great for my back..
I get her in bed and go get the meds....give the meds to the girl she says I will
give them later...I said NO...now and I want her temp tested....and are you doing
the blood pressure test...She says ..mom's not on the list for that....after what
happened at the hospital...,.GEZZ.....The girl is nice,,,but is not trained in medical...
Finally, got her meds, temp taken, settled into bed for the night....Tomorrow will
diffently be a day of Questions.....................
Ended up making it to about 40 mins of the grad....nephew looked so great and
happy....Spent....too many hours on my feet in heels...and my stress level is
beyond it point!!!!!!
So the night did not go as planned, but at least I plan on getting mom somewhere
she will be taken care of....Oh and she feel again but were we notified..NO!!!
I sorta call this place a Medicare-Medicade Fraud....They are going to have to
give me some answers to why my mom was to be found in this condition!
Nite all stess is shot.;;;

Glad you were there to check and get your Mom\'s antibiotics started... what a mess
Is you Mom in a life care center or nursing home? these are very different levels of care.. life care or assisted living are just that assisted.. as opposed to a nursing home which has on site medical...
Happy to hear that the graduation went well. Take care of yourself,
MaryLou
Sandi, I know exactly, exactly what you are going through. My brother is in a nursing home and he has no one but myself and my husband to advocate for him, and the past 2 years have been a total, total, nightmare. The last place was so bad, we finally got him transferred to a better facility, but not a lot better. I dont want to upset you, but if your mother is on medicade and is in a medicade paid facility, your problems are only just beginning. It just doesnt get any better. I feel so bad for you and your mother especially. All I can do is send you love and support. Love, Katrina
I have been having similar experiences with my brother. But it was the doctor who ignored him - the surgeon to be exact. Even with family members trying to get some action, it took a month and a half.
I have been a manager in continuing care facilities, mostly focusing on dementia such as Alzheimer\'s Disease. It is true that it helps to have a squeaky wheel. With our staffing levels, it helps to have family members to advocate for the residents. I am glad you were able to be there to advocate for your mother. It sounds like she needs to be in a home with Registered Nurses to monitor. I hope all goes well.
I am so glad you made it to the grad, even though you were late! I hope your back is okay!
Take care,
Love and hugs,
Marlene
I am glad you are an Advocate for your Mother. I agree with Marlene, you need a home with more skilled nursing abilities. Good Luck, Hugs Susan
Mom was in a very good place when she was first placed in a nursing home....where she is now is called Personal Care...but everything says its a nursing home...There are no registered nurses there and only a doctor that well that don\'t do anything....No one giving mom her medicines are not qualified....We are trying to see if we can get her back at the first place.
Thanks all I need all the help I can get on this...Sandi
Sandi,
I am so sorry that this is another struggle to endure. My thoughts and prayers will be with your family for a couple weeks until everything gets settled down.
Leda
Thank goodness your Mom has you to be her advocate. It\'s a shame that there even has to BE an \"advocate\" for our loved ones... if people would just do the decent job they\'re being paid for, and the facilities live up to their promises of excellent, loving care, right?! Attention to detail is sorely lacking in our world these days, I believe.
Love+Hugs, Donna
so sorry your mom is not well. I\'ll pray for a speedy recovery. Shes lucky to have you. Marcia
Please keep us posted on your moms health. I think it\'s safe to say you have all our emotions on high now with the mediocre care your mother is receiving. We all know that anytime our loved ones are in the hospital or in a home...it\'s important to let staff know that family will always be around. I\'ll admit....when my honey had a punctured lung...I pulled a Shirley MC clain from \"Terms of Enderment\" and yelled and screamed until someone checked him!
I think all of us moms hear know about yelling and sceaming! :)
Sandi, I am not at all surprise. Anymore it seems no matter how hard we try to find good health care, its to no avail....I\'m not upholding the nurse, but from the stories i\'ve heard of other families, with Dr.\'s hosp. etc...it all comes down to money.....cut backs on staff is an accident wating to happen........continued prayers for your Mother......love, Pat
Oh my goodness! this is outrageous. Have you thought of maybe having a special nurse to come and take care of her? there must be some answer to all of this....:/
Thinking of you my friend and we have the care of our parents we must be so involved as you have been. Love to you
