Well, the MIL left this morning...
The Good Times Jar turned out great! Mine is just a plain jar and I like the one I made for her so much I'm going to make one for myself. (photo up shortly)
I'm glad I gave it to her when I did. I noticed that during Thanksgiving after dinner she suddenly had to leave. And I know why.... My son was telling funny stories about how his dad cheated at card games they played and while she laughed, I could see it also triggered memories of her husband teaching my x, her husband's card tournaments he won, and yep, I fully understand the tears. When I gave her the present, I said "here's something to help you through" and she said "a crying towel?".... made my heart wrench....
We talked quite a while, took photos of the grandbabies, and then I turned to her and offered to show her my house. Last time she visited while my x was still alive and we were still married, he wouldn't let her in (they were arguing at the time). So I know she really wanted to see it...
I already had the upstairs and outside decorated. I got up at 5 am and started cleaning everything else. Just as I was getting rid of the last of the spider webs in the basement, she called and said she was on her way... 15 minutes until she got here and I stunk, lol. A race to the shower and she pulled up seconds after I was done, lol. I turned on all the lights and gave her the tour. She was kind enough not to say anything about my residual shuffling places, lol....
As she left, she said she wanted to ask my son for a copy of their wedding photo. I told her I had an extra one downstairs and did she want it? Her eyes lit up so I ran down and grabbed it.... beautiful photo with a frame and a saying about family and love. She was holding it close as she left.
She left early because she wanted to stop on the way to visit a 101 year old aunt. We got word right after she left that the aunt passed away yesterday. So in the past year, she's lost an aunt, her husband, her son, her granddaughter, her brother, and a sister.... send prayers for her please...
I wish I could have done more. Later...
