Weekends are rough
My weekends are rough right now. Roomie doesnt make them easier....Lord pleass let the next 7 months go by happier. I have never been around someone I dont feel motivated by. This morning he told me he was going to go buy diet pills. For months ive been telling him he needs to get up and move. Ive begged him to walk with me and stop drinking and smoking. I cant take this much longer.

The drinking is where he is gaining weight ....when we take a drink, the liver stops burning fats because it has to burn the alcohol first, so while it is burning the alcohol, it is packaging up the fats as triglycerides and sending them throughout the body!
I remember when I quit drinking, I lost my beer belly over a period of 6 months...nearly 40 pounds worth and oddly enough, I didn't really alter my diet that much. I switched to more fruits and veggies somewhat but not alot.
If he wants to lose weight, diet pills are not really good for you and just make your heart race from all the caffeine in them imho. Long walks and doing things around the house or apartment....moving more, like you said is the best way to do it. if I were there, I would gladly walk with you. I love being outside!
Good luck
For what it's worth:
A strength I find in unhappy living arrangements is the extra motivation to stay busy finding whatever's next. Attending extra group meetings and working overtime feels allot more productive than trying to change other people, even when they sincerely want to change.
But that is me. . .
Continued support while you find what works for you.
I went on Letgo and bought a treadmill. Him being unmotivated is rubbing off on me...i hope by changing myself he will follow suit but i think just wishful thinking as always
It takes quite alot to motivate someone who has had a sedentary lifestyle all of his life but living together will allow him to see how much you are benefiting from the exercise and he may want to follow in your footsteps....ya never know. All you can do is lead by example.
I remember when I approached middle ages, I became lazy and didn't want to do anything outside of work but I was married at the time and my wife decided she was going to join the gym and lose weight, so I decided to join with her. We both bout a 6 month membership and I must say, during the times we went to the gym together, were the happiest moments of my life because we both motivated each other and made exercise and diet a high priority in our lives.
We both lost alot of weight and my wife had these glamour photos taken when she got down to the weight she wanted to be. Not to bragg but she looked fantastic...very sensual and it made our sex life a thousand times better! I showed her photos to the guys I worked with and they all wanted one but I didn't have enough to go around.
So yes I highly recommend both of you exercising. Set goals that you know you can work up to over time. Try not to do too much at once or you will get frustrated and then you will want to quit.
Good Luck!.
BobinMaine,
I use to be a personal trainer so my laziness and unmotivation hit me hard. My depression has been severe the last 2 years and I think this
might have something to do with it.
Yes, it may be! I use to run every day and even finished a marathon years ago but I stopped running due to a back problem and that was when my depression started as well as a drug and alcohol addiction. After I beat that with outpatient treatment and AA, I began running again so I no longer needed to take depression medication. So you are probably right. Maybe slowly get back into it in some way and see how you feel and I bet you will feel better.
Good luck!
