Wed Act 2

I phoned an attorney whom told me I did indeed have a case and offered to represent me.  Before committing I gave the manager a call at the property(the one I sent the long email to yesterday)-she told me that this is a anomoly and it never happens.  I jokingly told her I guess the roaches knew I was coming and decided to infest the apartment.  Roaches just don't show up.  Told her that Ive had to find another place to stay and have had to start paying rent and bills elsewhere and that I hoped she would end my lease.

She told me that she would not pay my moving expenses however she would agree to let me out of the lease if my things could be out by Sunday.  I'm out 300.00 for moving expenses but-its a far cry from being stuck in a lease and potentially living with these problems.  I told her I would like our phone call memoralized in an email.  She said she would be responding to my email from yesterday.  So we'll wait and see.  She said I will get cut a check for my first months rent.  In total, I'm out 350.00.  The attorney was going to charge me 250.00 for sending a letter...so I think its best to just cut my losses and get out.

I think I'm just going to stay at Roomies for now-I don't have the confidence in myself to make another major decision so quickly. Will let things settle down and then make decisions.  For now, Sammycat and I are safe, even if the safe place is not my own.  As BobinMaine said, this could be a blessing.  This pandemic is upon us and its not the best time to be moving anyway.  I think this all happened for a reason as things seem to do in my life.

Happy to hear you're getting out of that. I wouldn't hire an attorney either if I was only going to be out of my $350. An attorney can drag stuff out and nickle and dime you to death for something you could settle yourself. So good for you.

This sounds like a good solution and one that will give you some peace of mind.

It's ok to put moving on the back burner until the dust settles. Take time to save more money and what not. I'm glad you have a comfortable place to stay until you're ready.

Ah. . . The recovery waltz. . . One step forward, two steps back. . .

My personal favorite theory on the Why's of that waffles between 1) The setbacks keep me from throwing proverbial babies out with the bathwater and 2) The challenges test my resolve. The debate always ends with a reminder that I only drive myself crazier when I start asking, "Why." Like I'm not crazy enough, already?

Easy does it, Tiger. I'm not sure everything happens for a reason, but I am sure agonizing over ^it^ is far from productive.

Be gentle with yourself and patient with the journey.

Ha! I don't think anything happens for any reason whatsoever. I think we decide what the good is that can come out of crappy situations.. I find that comforting, not some big mystery but just seeing something for what it is, a wee set back is all. I think it's just the nature of resilience. But that's me. Whatever it is, don't make yourself nuts over it.
