So, this is my first journal, something I've never bothered with before, even as a child and her diary. Can't see the point really but maybe one day soon when my memory lies in tatters I'll be reminded of days that were once my life.
My home for the last 3 months is a tiny granny flat that we built onto our main house for Den's (that's my hub) granny when she came to stay. That was many years ago but the flat was pretty handy when the boys out-grew their bedrooms. And now it's my comfy crib that suits me down to the ground ... right next door to my daughter but not in her lap. At the moment I'm sitting in my little study that lies off the sitting room where some dull soapie is jabbering on my TV. I wonder when silver haired grannies like me will be used to promote a fancy shampoo or denture fixative? My TV stands central in my sitting room on a rattan cabinet with display shelves layered either side and crowded with family photos. There is another rattan 6-drawer cabinet packed to the hilt with my knitting stuff and half done projects against one wall and my kist filled with mementoes in mothballs stands against the other under a wide window that overlooks the drive and herb garden.
There are no doors in the flat except for a salon swing door into the bathroom. A single wall divides the sitting area from my bedroom and the kitchentte is tucked behind another short wall where my little bar fridge stands out of sight but within easy reach. The view from my kitchenette is through a wide arch into a quiet courtyard garden with a bird bath, a number of potted roses and a few clivias. From time to time I sit on the slatted bench and watch the birds fly down to splash about - I should make more use of this little retreat especially in the afternoons when the sun has dipped behind the hill.
So far today, I chatted on Skype to my son in New Zealand, played "bugger off" with my grandson (that's peek-a-boo...hehe) and fixed some toast with melted cheese and tomato for lunch. Just been told that my son-in-law will be arriving shortly and has already warned my daughter that he is ravenous. She isn't a good cook by any stretch of the imagination but gives it her best shot and John usually takes over the chore for the rest of the week-end.
Oh well, I suppose that's enough for today .... gotta leave something else to natter about another day. Bye for now .........
