Watching the snow come donw
I am watching the snow coming down and down. I think how far I have come to get my place up in the mts ready for winter. And I am thinking of what I can do to make it better next year. So guess it makes it real I am gonna stay here. Our nearest large town is so full of drugs & murders I do not feel safe further down into town.
I grew up on a cattle ranch in Mt so love my horses and acreage altho just 5, and still have doubts I can maintain it the 3 acres I actually live on but I am sure gonna try.
I am not far from trails to ride, trails to snowmobile on and seeing the deer/elk is still a thrill to me. So many people tell me at age 60 (almost 61) I need to give this up for an apartment. Why don't I just give up now ....never always a country girl.

Stay where your heart is! I\'m in the \"boonies\" too; and love it. At 65 almost 66 years old, I\'m not ready to give it up. There is peace and serenity here that I won\'t find in an apartment or in a city. I\'ll take care of our home to the best of my ability, that\'s enough for now.
A lot of people go through life never really knowing where they belong. You know and are happy and comfortable there. Why leave a place that brings you such joy?

I am in the middle of what was once our 170 acres. We sold 65 a couple of years ago. I would not move an inch if I could afford to stay. I won\'t be that far away. About 500 feet up the driveway. It was mom\'s house. I was up there a couple of days ago thinking about the 60 acres I\'m going to keep. I thought I\'ll be 70 in just 5 short years. Can I handle it? Most of it is woods so not anywhere near the mowing I do here. I hope to have the same fellow bale the hay & I\'ll keep my ag tax rate. I\'ll keep the Ford 3930 and the small brush hog. I\'ve never lived in town except for the first year of marriage. I was 16 and knew it was not for me. Then when my husband joined the Corp during Nam I moved in town for another year. Then back to the country & raised olives. Once a country girl..... I love seeing the deer in the evening. It has stopped snowing. King slipped on the ice this morning & is limping around. Enjoy your place!! It sounds beautiful.

I grew up in town, but developed a love for the country at age 10 when staying with my friend on her 600 acre farm. Kenny and I never owned a farm, but always lived in the country. In 2006 we finally made our dream a reality - we bought a 115 acre farm in Eastern Kentucky. He got me a horse and a neighbor \"donated\" 6 goats. We didn\'t \"farm\" for money, just for the joy of it. Now that he\'s gone, it will be a real struggle to keep the place with only my income. But even if I can\'t I could never move to town - I actually have nightmares about that sometimes! Stay where you are, where your heart is. By the way, the lady who owned the farm before me lived here as a widow until she died at age 103! You\'re still a young pup! ~Hugs~ Christie
