Wait for it...
I'm making a prediction here, and documenting it just so I can say, "Yeah, I saw it coming."
For a couple months now, we've been tentatively making vacation plans for the end of July. DH's family is having a family reunion 13 hours away (or at least 1/2 the family is...that's a whole 'nother story!). My big concern from the beginning has been: what do we do with the dog? We would love to take him with us, but the folks who live down there have their own animals & our dog will go after them. After I expressed my concern, DH had stated that he didn't want the dog going to the kennel for a great length of time again because last time he had gone, he'd gotten sick afterward.
So I asked what he planned on doing? DH said he was going to talk to his father (who lives 8 hours from where we are) to see if they'd take in the dog (since the dog loves them). I wasn't crazy about the idea because his folks are getting older & it may be a bit much for them. DH disagreed, saying that taking care of our dog shouldn't be a bid deal for them. OK...so he said he was going to talk to his dad about it about a month & a half ago. His dad calls us every week, just to talk. After each conversation, I'd ask DH if he talked to his dad about the dog. "No, I'll do it next time," he said.
Now, last time I spoke with his dad, his dad said/asked something about the dog going to the kennel while we were gone. Which tells me that DH has not talked to his dad at all. And I'm thinking: if he wants the dog to go to the kennel, the dog will need a kennel cough shot well in advance of being checked in (which he knows).
So basically my prediction is: disaster. He will either try to get the dog in without a shot & be rejected & therefore put us in an awkward position, or he will decide last minute to bring the dog & it will be tricky (& probably on me) what we'll do with him once we get there.
Let me just say that I'm not getting involved in this, because DH is a grown-up & should be able to handle these things.
Another thing about the vacation: where we are staying. The cousin who put all this together hasn't really communicated much about it, other than what day it is. We have an idea of who all is going down; we have no idea as to where everyone is staying. DH has said all along that there are quite a few places to stay, including in a re-vamped trailer that they have down there (which we've stayed in before). The problem is: until just the other day, he has not communicated with the folks down there as to where we are going to stay. He called his aunt & she said we were staying with the cousin. Then the cousin called back & said that she has other guests coming that weekend & we'd have to stay with the aunt or someone else. DH said to me, "I guess we're going to be bouncing around during the vacation."
I told all this to my co-worker & she suggested looking into nearby hotels/campgrounds "just in case". Well, I did & the only affordable options are all booked up because there's a huge festival in the area going on that weekend.
So I have no idea where we are going to stay. But I'm thinking it's probably in our best interest to bring our sleeping bags & pillows. Maybe a tent? And the possibility of having the dog with us complicates things further.
DH also plans on driving straight through (again: 13 hours) to our destination. And he said that the cousin was going to get us tickets for the festival for the next day. I said I was going to be way too tired from all that driving to go & my son agreed. DH started getting all mad about it, so...no further discussion on that!
So now I'm not looking forward to this vacation at all, even though I love the area & the folks down there. There is just way to much uncertainty & exhaustion, and there is just no reasoning with DH. Part of me just wants to stay home with the dog for the 2 weeks.
