Vickie's Visit

Had a short visit with my little sister, Vickie, Saturday afternoon.  She and her friend were headed to Austin to visit his relatives there.  We went to one of the great local restaurants in town for lunch.  Since I don't eat many fried foods, I'm always hungry for chicken fried steak and that's what I ordered.  Vickie told me to get the full order instead of the half order I wanted.  She said I could bring the leftovers home for another meal.  So there I sat with enough cfs for two people, french fries, and fried okra.  She and her friend each got a half order.  It was out of this world!  She had ordered a baked potato that I noticed she hadn't touched.  When we got ready to leave, she put it and a piece of cfs in a take-out container and I a good part of mine in another.  There was enough food for two more meals.  She's always looking out for me that way.  When we got home, she brought in a bag full of movies that will come in handy since I'm really tired of the reruns on t.v.  We spent maybe two hours together and they headed south.  It would have been a great day except for one thing.  Her friend had driven his pick-up and I couldn't get in until he pulled it to the curb.  My legs were too weak to get into it!  I've got to get some exercise!  There's no reason at my age I shouldn't be able to climb into a pick-up.  It happened once before when I tried to get into a tow truck, but I figured the steps were just too high.  Now, I know the truth.  I've got to get off my butt and walk and walk and walk and climb steps.  Its either that or crutches or a wheel chair.

I have my old Montgomery Ward purchased treadmill at the foot of my bed and walk while listening to Smokey Robinson\'s \'You\'ve Really Got A Hold On Me\'. I recorded this song repeatedly on a CD as it fits my walking beat and makes walking fun. Without the treadmill if I had to face weather; pot holes and what have you I would never make it. Also, this way I can wear \'whatever\' to do my work out.

That and two pound cast iron dumb bell weights is my total work out.

Music that matches the \'beat\' of your step is best -- it turns walking into a fun kind of \'dance\'.

I\'m so glad you have the love and care of your sister.

Take very good care and get to walking -- just to the end of the block and back is good to begin with and then make a goal of reaching the next corner in a week or so. Don\'t forget to take water with you -- hydration is \'HUGE\' with physical activity -- your favorite music makes it more a fun time then a \'work\' out. If the weather is good head on out there and make it happen and then share back how it went.

Im rooting for you Mike!!!

Yes, walking is great exercise. I have been doing enough of that at my job. I seen on tv where if a person walks a little, then jogs a little, it burns more calories. However, that presented a little bit of a problem at my age. I know people do it, but it was not so easy.

I am happy to hear that you had a great visit with your Vickie, and could you please mail me some of that okra? lol. I love fried okra. You made the meal sound out of this world. Movies? I have a china cabinet packed with movies, John Wayne and Clint Eastwood being my favs. I hope to hear more about the movies you like. Hugs to you, and I hope your furbaby is doing great!
