Venice, Italy The Bird Woman
SEnuke: Ready for action
Venice is a classic and notably peculiar town in Italy. Built long ago o-n marshlands, I was amazed to find myself paying my first night in town with all the bird woman.
Book a Room
You can rent a space in an exclusive house at the stop, as is common with many cities in Europe. The benefit of hiring a room is you can stay with a family and the expenses tend to be a lot cheaper than a hotel room. The family will take a liking to you and take you around to see the real town you're in, if youre happy.
I had just arrived in Venice on the train from Paris. It was late, I was tired and in no mood to be particular about lodging. As I walked up to the rent a place desk, I had two priorities: sleep and a shower.
The elderly woman at the desk smiled at me and we got right down to business. Obviously, arriving in Venice around midnight at the center of August wasnt a smart move. I was told most everything was out of stock, but there were two areas still available. The first was 4-5 minutes outside of the city while the 2nd was just off Piazza San Marco, the main square you see in all the films. I booked the San Marco room, given a map and down I went.
As it was late and I was exhausted, it never occurred to me to ask why an area so close to Piazza San Marco was open when everything else was taken. As I walked through the very narrow streets of Venice, I was too tired to really care.
Following map, I walked in to the block and started going toward the glass shops at the far end. The walk through the otherwise beautiful square was a monster o-n my headache as the mini-orchestras dueled the night away. Reaching the end, I found the little alley mentioned on the place and through I went in-to more winding little streets.
In the course of time, I found the doorway and gave it a hit. Just like a bad Monty Python movie, a bit viewing position opened, eyes looked at me and my backpack, the door opened and I was actually taken inside. Before me stood a little older girl with wild hair. Now, I began to understand just why the space was available. Turns out I was wrong, as Michelle turned out to be good and very reasonable.
Michelle gave me the run-down on the home and her simple policies. She went into an extended diatribe about keeping due to some thing she didnt know the English word for the doors closed. Within the home, your house took on an entirely new environment. Michelle was a large fan of birds. She'd little yellow birds, red birds, black birds and I declare a couple of humming birds. Luckily, my place were bird-proofed by keeping the door shut. As I lay in bed, but, I can hear chirping and wings flapping because the other guests flew round the areas. Over the next two times, I never got use to opening the door and seeing birds whipping by or located and staring at me. I imagine this is where Alfred Hitchcock picked-up a few of his a few ideas.
