Various verses about Jesus and what He came to do

1 John 3:8 "...But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil."

Luke 4:18 "The Spirit is upon me [Jesus], for he [God] has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free (19) and the time of the Lord's favor has come."

Acts 10:38 "And you know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with Holy Spirit and with power.  Then Jesus went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the Devil, for God was with him."

Matthew 4:23-25 "Jesus traveled throughout the region of Galilee, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom.  And he healed every kind of disease and illness. (24) News about the Kingdom spread as far as Syria, and the people soon began to him all who were sick.  And whatever their sickness or disease or if they were demon possessed or epileptic or paralyzed--he healed them all.  (25) Lard crowds followed him wherever he went--people from Galilee, the Ten Towns, Jerusalem, from all over Judea, and from the east of Jordan River."

Matthew 8:16-17 "That evening the demon possessed people were brought to Jesus.  He cast out the evil spirits with a simple command, and he healed all the sick. (17) This fulfilled the word of the Lord through the prophet Isaiah who said, "He took our sicknesses and removed our diseases' "

Matthew 15:29-31 "Jesus returned to the Sea of Galilee and climbed a hill and sat down. (30) A vast crowd brought to him people who were lame, blind, crippled, those who couldn't speak, and many others.  They laid them before Jesus, and he healed them all. (31) The crowd was amazed! Those who couldn't speak were talking, the crippled were made well, the lame were walking, and the blind could see again!  And they praised the God of Israel."

John 9:1-7 (from the Message Bible) 

^1-2 Walking down the street, Jesus saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked, “Rabbi, who sinned: this man or his parents, causing him to be born blind?”

^3-5 Jesus said, “You’re asking the wrong question. You’re looking for someone to blame. There is no such cause-effect here. Look instead for what God can do. We need to be energetically at work for the One who sent me here, working while the sun shines. When night falls, the workday is over. For as long as I am in the world, there is plenty of light. I am the world’s Light.”

^6-7 He said this and then spit in the dust, made a clay paste with the saliva, rubbed the paste on the blind man’s eyes, and said, “Go, wash at the Pool of Siloam” (Siloam means “Sent”). The man went and washed—and saw.

Later in John chapter 9, verse 24 says (KJV) "Then again they called the man that was blind, and said to him, GIVE GOD THE PRAISE: we know that this man was a sinner." 

I want to make a note here that I quoted from John chapter 9 out of the Message Bible, and it is a paraphrased version, and not a litteral translation.  The King James version says in John 9:3 "Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents, but that the works of God should be made manifest" and many people understand this to mean that God was getting glory out of the man's blindness.   But if you keep reading, you can see that the NEXT verse tells us (John 9:4 KJV) " I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is still day..." and then as we keep reading we see that Jesus HEALS the man's blindness, and verse 24 says very clearly that praise was given to God for the HEALING.   The NLT says in verse 24, "God should get the glory for this"  I quoted it from the Message Bible so we could get a clearer understanding of what is being said in this passage, not that God was geting glory out of the man's blindness, but that  the man's blindness gave Jesus an opportunity to do God's work, which was healing, and then the people gave God glory and praise for the healing work that Jesus did.
