Vacation Recap
I'm on the train on the way home now. It was a very nice trip overall. My mom even got today off so she could see me to the train and say goodbye. We were worried on the way to the train that we weren't going to make it on time, but we did with a bit of time to spare. It's a little odd with my mom's husband... I don't really like him- none of us do- but he was growing on me on this trip. Maybe it's because we went fishing together, something I only used to do with my dad, or just because I'm in the mood to like people, I don't know. It was still nice to spend time with both him and my mom.
My mom is doing well... it's weird still to see her with short hair. All my life I knew her she had long, beautiful hair. A couple years ago she chopped it all off, and now it's almost a pixie cut. I personally think it makes her look older, but I can understand. Older people normally have shorter hair because they are starting to lose it and it looks bad when it's long and thin. I sent my sister a picture of my mom, Chele and I and my sister didn't say anything about my mom's hair. I know my sister has seen pictures of it before... it's on my mom's facebook so everyone can see it. My mom felt kinda weird that my sister didn't say anything about her hair.
Last night, I got a reality check from my step-grandma. She said she could see that I've gained weight since February when I was last there (which is true) and that she was surprised at how much I could eat. I thought I was doing okay on food- I didn't think I was eating that much, just a paper plate full. But she knows about food- she used to be over 300 pounds, so she knows to look for it. It was hard to stand there and listen, but at the same time I know I should. I was already thinking before that I should cut down on my chicken eating from 2 thighs at dinner to 1. If I'm still hungry later, I can eat the second, but not to eat both of them at the same time. I lost before by eating small meals often (including just 1 chicken thigh for dinner) so cutting back on my food is a good idea.
My May weight loss buddy writes out what she is going to eat the day before so there's not as much temptation, and I think I'm going to start doing that too. So, for tomorrow, I'm going to have oatmeal and some coffee for breakfast, I'm still deciding on lunch, and one skinless chicken thigh with a half cup of mashed potatoes for dinner. I got some Fiber One bars for snacks, and I will have one as a snack and I also have the second piece of chicken for taking my pills with. I need to eat with my pills, and if I plan out what I'm going to eat, it can prevent me from eating something that I don't need for a snack.
I know I've gained weight on the Depakote, but it's my fault and not the pills. I started the pills before vacation, and when I go on vacation I gain weight. I stepped on my step-grandma's scale and it said 258.6. The doctor's scale the other day said 254, so I've gained 4.6 pounds on vacation. That's not as bad as the 10 pounds from February, but it's still not good. I'm going to try and start walking as well, so I can get some exercise in.
Schedule:
11pm tonight- go to bed, try to be asleep by midnight
10am-wake up, take my pills, eat breakfast
?pm eat lunch
2pm- go for a 20 minute (or more) walk
6pm- start dinner, done by 7:15
9:30pm- take pills, have snack.
11pm- go to bed, asleep by midnight.
I got home tonight and spent a bunch of time with Geo. It was really nice to get to see him after being gone for so long, and he was talking about the reservations that he had with me going back to see my cousins, and I talked with him about why I wanted to go. I think that we are closer to an understanding now- him understanding why I want to go, and me understanding why he wants to get his brother a PS3. I think the good thing about me coming home from vacation is that we communicate better when I get home after being gone. I wonder why that is.

There is an old saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder, this is true and you have one again proved it. You come home and you talk more, you missed each other, you need to \"catch up\" as it were, so you talk more, until, alas, it all falls into the same dull routine once again. Then talk will become less, but again. Make sense?
Yeah, it does. I like coming home to him. It\'s hard with both of us being disabled and home all the time. It\'s like we get too used to each other. I\'m going to try and start being more active outside the house if I can... It\'s just the best thing for me to get out, and spend some time out of the house.
