Uterine vs Breast?
Hi Friends,I was thinking of all of you, and planning to write, but tonight (actually last night since it is 4:20 AM) something happened that has me up thinking and the only people I think might understand is you all.As you know if you have followed my journals, I do Avon. I was at an Avon meeting tonight, having a great time when my manager hit us with something. She was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after I finished my radiation for uterine cancer. She would not tell anyone, but I found out through a close friend of hers that I happened to know, so I was aware of it. She did not share what she went through whatsoever with her district, and continued to appear as if she was working the whole while. I have no idea what she went through, and though I attempted to reach her, sending her a card, calling, email, she never responded. Everybody has a right to get through this any way that works for them, and I appreciate that. So tonight, she finally revealed that she had a double mastectomy. She told us this because she said she was soliticing us for the first time in her twelve years as manager to give her money to go to the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago. She then went on to say that Avon took wonderful care of her and paid all the medical bills and promised she would not lose her job as district manager. She then handed us all papers to read about the walk and forms to fill out to donate money for her and the division manager to go to Chicago and walk. She said if each representative in the district gave $5, then it would be more than covered.I don't know how to explain how I felt as she was talking. I too went through cancer this year, and had radiation, and my entire uterus and all related parts removed. I informed her, but she did not send me a card or call to see how I'm doing. I continued to do Avon, but was sent no condolences, or offer to pay my medical bills. In fact, if I may indulge you, I made president's club during the year, and am one of the top ten sales and recruiting leaders in our district. But because I was not a district manager or I had the wrong cancer, I have not been given any help by Avon, except through my wonderful customers and friends who supported me emotionally every inch of the way. And this site, Daily Strength kept me going, just by being able to write out my thoughts and feelings, and make new friends who cared, not just for the time, but for a lifetime. My daughter drove me home tonight because I am still weak from Fibromyalgia and have problems, and I tried to tell her how I felt. Her response was, "But Mom, she lost her breasts! That's worse because you can see a difference." At 19, she does not understand. My dear husband told me when I got home that he thinks I lost more than my district manager did. I think that is a pretty good Valentine's Day gift. But I don't want this to be a comparisn about who has the worst cancer. I just felt so ignored, misunderstood, angry, maybe even shocked tonight that I was speechless. She was never even that good of a manager truthfully, although lately she has been more available to her representatives. She told us that she heard a lot of bad stories since having breast cancer, and she simply said, "I've been given a break." She said she is 100% cured of her cancer, so I guess that's what she meant. An interesting note about this is I was feeling sorry for myself, and other women with cancer, and I picked up the mail and saw an unopened letter from our mortgage company. A lawsuit had been done because they did something wrong, and turns out we got paid more than a week's paycheck as a reimbursment! The check was staring at me, and my thought was , Avon didn't take care of me, but God did. So I'm trying to focus on that.I looked up the statistics for cancer and for women it seems that there is a top three that cause more deaths. Lung Cancer, Breast Cancer, and Collecteral Cancer. The last one kills more than any other except Lung Cancer in both men and women. So get your colonoscopys and whatever else the doc asks for. I've been putting off getting a stool sample because it's not fun, but guess I better do it. I've recently been told by my doctor that I have fluid around my heart and Thursday will have lab work, exams, and echocardio-something or other. Maybe if they fix that I won't be so tired or out of breath. So I will try to update you on that in a couple days.I would love to help women who have cancer in some way, but I need to get my mind straightened out on this last episode. Maybe someone out there can help me understand what I should do in this instance. I do plan on holding my own fundraiser for the wonderful Hope Lodge in Marshfield, WI that put me up in the best possible comfort while I stayed there last year. I'm doing this in April because that's when I was first there. And I hope to give each current resident something from Avon then too.I would love to know your feelings on this, and also if anyone else has had fluid around their heart. Thanks ladies. You are my lifesaver from God.
