URA Puts Up For Sale One Bernam Street

A worker was killed on Thursday afternoon (Jun 15) when a concrete wall collapsed onto Bernam Street off Anson Road in the CBD, while demolition work was underway at the Fuji Xerox Towers. The building site was closed by the Singapore Civil Defence Force after the incident.

URA has put up for sale by tender a Bernam Street residential-with-commercial land parcel for the first half of this year, which can yield about 30 per cent more dwelling units than initially estimated under the GLS confirmed list. The site, a 99-year leasehold development located between Enggor Street and Bernam Street, is near the Keppel Towers and 100AM shopping mall, and will offer residents supreme connectivity with the CBD, where there are various Grade A office towers and vibrant lifestyle offerings.

Streamflow in the Bernam River Basin declines from July to October in the dry season, which often leads to water shortages and rationing of irrigation water for paddy fields. This is because water demand seldom matches the unreliable river flow, which is a key driver for agriculture in run-of-the-river systems. Hence, a comprehensive assessment of the impact of climate change on Bernam River flows is urgently required to support future paddy irrigation decisions.

This study aims to investigate the impacts of future climate change on Bernam River basin flow using simulations with the SWAT model, a widely-used hydrological modelling system. Historical gridded hydro-meteorological data for rainfall and temperature were downscaled to the basin scale and fed into the SWAT model. Sensitivity analysis was carried out to identify parameters with significant influence on Bernam river flow.
