Update on the Pooch...
The vet says she is thinking maybe he sprained or hurt his back foot. I returned home with the same wounded pup and no real answers.He has moments where he is up and around... and others where he is limp and dragging his back legs again. Before we even left the office he was dragging again. Then a very vocal agressive pitbull entered and scared everybody in the place.
I am greatful for good news that it may not be more serious, but at the same time, him still having issues and returning home does not make me feel any better. We are watching and waiting to see ifi there is more improvement. I have pain pills to give him for now to see if that helps.
So thank you all for kind thoughts and prayers.

What I have found is that my vet will take the cheapest way out when running expensive tests can provide more definitive answers. When I took my dog in to see our vet, he just felt her midsection and said he thought she might have pancreatitis because her pancreas was swollen, so he went with that assumption and prescribed some antibiotics which, he said, would kill everything. He also prescribed some probiotic pills to help do what the pancreas was not able to do, until it could have a chance to heal. About 4 or 5 days later, I didn't think she was healing fast enough because she still had boughts of diarrhea and throwing up so I made an appointment to take her back. This time, I asked him to do some tests to make sure he didn't misdiagnose, which he was more then happy to do. The blood tests confirmed his original diagnosis of pancreatitis and he said she would gradually improve, which she did. It costs me $120 but at least I knew for sure and I didn't have to second guess the doctor.

When our aging shepard was getting on in years the vet prescribed pain management. We still giggle about the look on his face when they kicked in. Very relaxed and goofy. Maybe a break from the pain will let him rest and recover. Bests

Injuries on our little doggies seem to take so long to heal because we worry for them. Rest is a great healer so hopefully the pain killers will play their part soon. I've got 6 little rescues here in Cyprus and I have had to learn to trust the vet, often against my better judgement! Hope he is ok soon x
