Update on Ken
Hello my friends,
It has been an rough ride since Ken's surgery. After a craniotomy on Tuesday the attending physician let Ken go home on Thursday. Two days after brain surgery?!! I tried to voice my concerns but the doctor dismissed what myself and the nurse were saying. My concern was because he was still in a lot of pain. I had gone into work for a few hours and got a call from Ken to go & bring him home from the hospital. As I left work on Thursday I said to my co-workers, "i see a trip to the ER in my future". Ken was released with Co-Tylenol for pain.
Long story short - we called the on-call on Saturday. He told Ken to take one of his migraine meds. It didn't help. Early Sunday morning we were at the ER. The ER doctors & nurses said he was released too soon after a craniotomy. Ya think?!! They did a cat scan and all looked ok. They gave him some morphine to interrupt the pain. By Wednesday, we called the neurosurgeon's office (who was very good by the way & had planned on keeping Ken at the hospital until Saturday) & said he is still having terrible head pain. The neurosurgeon thought it was due to inflammation & prescribed an anti-inflammatory med & he has been much better since he began taking that. Whew!
I think the worst is over..finally!

Oh, Linda, I\'m so sorry for the rough ride you and Ken have been through, but so glad that he is finally feeling better. Hopefully, he is able to rest better without so much pain. I will definitely keep Ken in my prayers.
Please make time for yourself to relax as well. You must have been under so much stress and strain.

So glad that Ken is getting pain relief. There simply is no reason not to treat his pain and inflammation. You are so right about being rushed out of the hospital. That is no way to treat a patient after surgery, a shock to the whole system, and back home where he was to stay alone!

Sometimes you have to wonder. I sort of see the early discharge but I would have thought they would see that he was stabilized! I am glad he has gotten some relief. I am not surprised that he had inflammation - it is almost a given after surgery.
Praying for a swift recovery and no more need for the ER!

My dad at 88 was released from the hospital after hip replacement after he had his first pee!! I was shocked but that\'s their policy..rose
Linda, so glad that Ken has got some relief. I still can\'t believe that sent him home when they did. Sometimes it makes you wonder..I know it really must have scared you. Hoping that Ken feels better soon....Love and hugs, Nell

I do hope the new meds work and keep him from another ER visit. The hospitals want people out early that is how they make money. Your stay is based on DRG\'s if your diagnosis is good for 5 days and you stay 6 they lose money but if you only stay 3 they make money ( go figure).
I just hope your Dr\'s are good

So sorry, that you and Ken had to go through all that. So unnecessary, to release him too early!! Makes me so angry, but what can you do???
