Update on Gluten Free Diet
I have been eating Gluten Free for almost two weeks. I intended to make it a month but am feeling much better despite my ongoing pain, that I thought I'd make a six month go of it. I am eating better overall, making myself eat when in pain most days and making wiser choices. It is easy to eat Gluten Free. I was surprised at the options I have. I bought a Gluten Free magazine and tore out the list of foods, posted it on the fridge and refer to it often as I prepare meals for my husband and I. I have to avoid some restaurants for all the caloric breaded and fried meals. I may even lose some post-surgical steroid weight over time. This is not my main goal. I look in the mirror and don't like what I see but then I look in my face and see a survivor...see previous post. I am a survivor of this condition. I must now take care of my body as best I can, despite the obstacles I daily face. I must become complete in tune with the nuances of this condition; each nerve pain spike, each muscle spasm, each day deciding how to spend the minutes wisely. This is DDD. I am the face of DDD. I am beautiful. I am hopeful. I am God's creation. I will persevere. I will be okay, even if my body isn't. Life is short and I will spend the minutes of each day looking for the gorgeous things, the lovely things and wise things it can offer me.
I'll keep you posted, ha ha, on my Gluten Free experience. A lifestyle change takes on average 21 days to get used to. I'm at two weeks now and after another 6 months this will be my new normal as well.
