Update of Life without Richard

May 22 will mark 7 years since I lost my soul mate.  He may have left me physically, but never spiritually.  I think about Dick often and wish he were still here.  My life is fully functional now.  Every day is an adventure and more happiness than sad.  My recent travels took me to Europe for 2 weeks.  Awesome!

After Dick passed, I made a private vow to do and see everything I could before I took my own dying breath.  And I have been doing exactly that.  New places, new friends, new experiences.  My little business selling peoples' unwanted wares on eBay is thriving.  Another egg in the semi-retirement basket.

Meeting with the financial advisor in April.  One goal is to cut down to a 4 day week, the other to draw a monthly dividend check.  We'll see.

The cat is probably the best move I made.  She has brought life back into the house, which has made it a home again.  No men, no dates, no thought of remarriage.  I guess I am on the cat lady list and don't really care.

For the DS members who are newly widowed and suffering, you will adapt to a life without your loved one.  It is a painful journey and a difficult one, but one that can be mastered.  You'll adapt as the days and years roll by, falling into that comfortable spot.
By all means, please do not spend hours of worry over what your purpose is now in life and don't kill yourself looking for it.  Your purpose will mold out of the new life you have created.  Mine is helping others who have lost and no one can understand their pain unless they have walked through the darkness themselves.  I am not a regular on DS anymore.  There are just some things a widow needs to separate herself from and DS was one that I needed to escape.  It doesn't mean that I am not here for you, for I am.  Just send me a message and I won't hesitate to answer it.

Peace and blessings to all of you.

Debbie, my journey started a little over three years ago - you were one of the first entries I read on DS, you inspired me from the beginning, I felt as though you had taken control of your grief and we\'re making the best of a bad situation. I admire that you show no apologies for loving your husband and wanting to travel the rest of your road with him still by your side. Thank you again for this entry, I really needed to see that a fulfilling life can still be had. I truly understand that you still miss your husband and still love him but are able to adjust a make a life for yourself. I truly appreciate and look up to you. Thank you!!
